Euphorbiaceae
African Milk Tree, Candelabra Plant, Elkhorn
Euphorbia lactea
The architectural candelabra-like form is
accented by the thick upright growing, green and whitish-green
variegated, thick triangular stems. Mature plants may produce tiny
petal-less, greenish-yellow flowers at the tips of the canes and along the ribs.
Provide the African Milk Tree or Candelabra Plant with a heavy container and a sharply draining soil. The heavy container is particularly beneficial in windy locations. Can become tree-like and quite heavy with size and maturity. It is simple enough to grow another one from cuttings if it gets larger than you prefer. A drought tolerant plant that prefers for the soil to become moderately dry between waterings.
