Large clusters of pure white lightly fragrant flowers shine brightly against a mound of deep green glossy foliage throughout the year under warm tropical conditions. Even if it wasn't fragrant it would easily be worthy of growing for its beautiful form, foliage, and exceptional flower power. This makes a wonderful hanging basket or container specimen for a covered patio or porch and is considered to be root hardy in zone 9 at least. Provide light shade or cool filtered sunlight (although it is reported to somewhat sun tolerant) in well-drained average moist, mildly acidic soils for optimum performance. Item# 11666

The medium sized cupped deep red single flowers are heavily edged with a broad band of pure clean white and a contrasting boss of bright yellow stamens. On young plants the flower variegation can be somewhat variable. Tama-No-Ura Camellia is an early to midseason heavily flowering Japonica with a vigorous upright somewhat open habit. Dense spikes of intense red stamens that emerge from red, star-shaped calyxes are produced throughout the warmer months of the year or year round under tropical conditions. The Thailand Powder Puff, or Finger Lies on the Ground, is an unusual scandent (vine-like) shrub from tropical Africa. The showy flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies. The gray-green foliage is remarkably similar to that of the Pineapple Guava. Item# 11389

In late summer and fall, Frostweed produces large flattened clusters of flowers that are used by a variety of pollinators including bees, migrating Monarchs and other butterflies. This is a relatively tall growing rhizomatous native perennial that will develop into a mass of upright stems and flowers. Frostweed, Verbesinca virginica, is typically found growing in moist to periodically dry soils in partly shaded to lightly shaded sites from the Edward's Plateau of west central Texas to Florida and as far north as Missouri and Kentucky. Compared to the very similar species Texas Crownbeard, Verbesina microptera, the Virginia Frostweed has fewer ray flowers (or petals) per flower and is considered to be more reliably cold hardy. A streak of clear bright white adorns the starkly contrasting brilliant true red flowers of this compact China Rose. Chi Long Han Zhu Rose, which roughly translates to White Pearl in Red Dragon's Mouth, is an easy to grow heirloom garden rose and was among the first repeat flowering roses exported out of China. A densely branching shrub rose with red to bronze new growth with good disease resistance and excellent flower power. Chi Long Han Zhu can flower for 10-12 months a year and in the coldest winters it may take a brief respite only to show off again in mild winter weather. Compact enough for container culture and smaller garden settings it can still hold its own in the garden, mixed perennial border, and landscape. Item# 11701

Clusters of creamy white, sometimes tinged pink, spidery flowers are produced atop short sturdy stems in late September and early October. The White Spider Lily is considered to be a hybrid Lycoris and is an easy addition to any sunny to semi-sunny well-drained soil in the garden or it can even be allowed to naturalize in the lawn. The narrow strap-like foliage appears once flowering has finished and grows through winter and the bulbs become dormant during summer.
