Hardy Hibiscus (a.k.a. Perennial Hibiscus)

Hardy or Perennial Hibiscus can produce flowers up to 12" or more across! These are some of the largest flowering perennials in any garden, hands down and have often been referred to as 'Dinner Plate' Hibiscus! They can begin flowering as early as late spring in the warmest regions and can continue until fall under growing conditions. These perennial Hibiscus are generally all cultivars and hybrids of our native american Hibiscus and today's cultivars even sport foliage that includes maroon and near black providing great contrast with other garden plants and often making the flowers shine like lights against that back drop. Hardy Hibiscus only get better with age producing more and more flowering stems and flowers with each passing season. Like all Hibiscus, these are heavy feeders and will prefer a moderate to highly fertile soils. They are tolerant of wet, to moist, to average moist soils. See our Hardy or Perennial Hibiscus Growing Guide for detailed information on growing these great perennials including the Confederate Roses.

Large 8"+ wide pink flowers with overlapping petals 'airbrushed' with white extending to near the middle of the flowers and with a deep red eye are produced over an extended period beginning in late spring to summer (depending on your zone) and flowering into fall. Airbrush Effect Perennial or Hardy Hibiscus is an 'indeterminate' flowering selection meaning that it flowers over a longer period than older cultivars. This is a compact 3-4'H x 4-5'W plant with rich green foliage well suited to moist sunny sites in the garden and landscape. Provide a moderately fertile soil to help encourage vigorous growth and flowering. Image courtesy of Walter's Gardens, Inc., all rights reserved. Item# 11710
