We are already beginning to add to our newest plants for the 2020 growing season. Spikes of deep dark red two-lipped tubular flowers are produced from spring to fall atop this dwarf densely branching perennial Salvia. A 5-star performer in Salvia trials at the Chicago Botanic Gardens! Mirage™ Cherry Red Salvia, a form of Autumn Sage or Salvia greggii, was selected for its heat and cold tolerance, and exceptional flower power. Its dwarf and compact habit is perfectly suited for use as a low maintenance and forgiving container specimen as well as in hot and sunny garden and landscape settings. Mojito Elephant Ears

Colocasia esculenta 'Mojito'  PP21995

The large minty green elephant-ear shaped foliage is flecked, spotted, streaked and randomly splashed with dark purple to black creating a very cool tropical eye-catching effect. The Mojito Elephant Ear is a rhizomatous tropical perennial in zones 8-10 but is vigorous enough to enjoy as a summer annual in northerly climates. Elephant Ears can be grown in moist to wet fertile soils and can be lightly submerged in water gardens as well as in medium to large containers. Colocasias can be invasive in warm southern climates please plant and dispose of plant parts responsibly. Omega Skyrocket Stokesia Daisy, Stoke's Aster

Stokesia laevis 'Omega Skyrocket'  

A giant among Stokesias, Omega Skyrocket can reach heights of 3-4' when in flower and still produces the same large cornflower blue daisies typical of the species beginning in late spring with an extended flowering season that can continue into mid and late summer on well-established plants. Omega Skyrocket Stokesia was discovered by Ozzie Johnson and Ron Determann of the Atlanta Botanical Garden in Omega, Georgia in the1990s. Stoke's Aster comes highly recommended and it's easy to see why with moderate drought resistance, few pest or disease problems, deer and rabbit resistance and it revels in the heat and sun of our southern summers. Iris x 'Over In Gloryland'  

Another award winning Siberian Iris from the breeding work of Robert Hollingworth, Over In Gloryland Siberian Iris produces large flowers composed of deep royal purple standards and falls with a creamy white signal or 'blaze' in midseason atop sturdy 3-4' stems. Party Lights™ Holly Leaf Tea Olive is one of the hardiest selections of Osmanthus and produces small white fragrant flowers in fall but it is mainly grown for its outstanding foliage color in the garden and landscape and has a nice dense well-branching habit that is sure to make a statement. Phantom Dwarf Joe-Pye Weed, Eupatorium

A slightly more compact Joe-Pye Weed-like hybrid, in summer Phantom Eupatorium produces large rounded clusters of purplish-pink flowers that sit atop sturdy dark maroon stems adorned with large medium green Joe-Pye Weed-like foliage. This clump forming herbaceous perennial was selected for its shorter branchier habit, excellent flower power, and mildew resistance but in all other regards is very similar to its larger growing parent. At maturity Phantom Eupatorium develops into a large rounded perennial to about 5'x5' whose stems are topped in 12" wide clusters of nectar rich flowers for weeks attracting a bevy of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Deep purplish-blue 3-petaled flowers emerge in succession from long-lasting flattened purplish-pink bracts in both spring and fall atop the rosette of narrow deep green arching foliage. The Pink Quill Plant, Tillandsia cyanea or now Wallisia cyanea, is one of the easiest to grow and most popular bromeliads which can be enjoyed as a small container plant, hanging basket, or it can be attached to wood as an epiphyte. This dainty bromeliad was awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its ease of culture and reliability. It is somewhat resistant to short periods of drought once well-established and should be grown in a site with good drainage and average moist to moist soils in an area that receives shade during the hottest part of the day, especially in hot summer climates. Red Butterfly Ginger

The Red Butterfly Ginger produces large deep reddish orange to red flowers that emerge from a darkened flower spike atop the sturdy stems of rich green smooth tropical looking foliage. It very much resembles the White Butterfly Ginger when in flower other than the flower color but has darker foliage a more compact habit. The Red Butterfly Ginger is one of the earliest gingers to flower in our collection. Provide a semi-shaded location where it receives shade during the hottest portion of the day although it is fairly tolerant. Red Sprite Dwarf Winterberry Holly

Ilex verticillata 'Red Sprite' (a.k.a. 'Nana', 'Compacta', 'Macrocarpa')  

Extra large, reportedly to nearly 1/2" in diameter, brilliant red berries literally cover up this dwarf and compact deciduous shrub throughout much of winter and may last into spring. Red Sprite Dwarf Winterberry Holly, a.k.a 'Nana', 'Compacta, and 'Macrocarpa', is a USDA release that won the 2010 Holly of the Year Award from the Holly Society of America. This adaptable native shrub drops its foliage early to better show of its display of colorful berries. It can be used en masse to great effect, as a low informal hedge, or as a specimen plant near the front of the garden or landscape. Red Sprite is even small enough to enjoy as a medium-sized container plant. Provide a full to mostly sunny site in a moist acidic soil. Needs a male holly, of any species, for pollination that flowers at the same time. 'Southern Gentleman' and 'Apollo' are two males that are recommended. Item# 11887

Dense bottlebrush-like flowers composed of fragrant frilly white to cream colored flowers are produced atop the tips of the bare stems in late winter or early spring. Redneck Nation Fothergilla or Witch Alder is a moderately dense growing small to medium sized deciduous suckering native shrub with showy gray-green and bronze new growth that matures to blue-green in summer and produces fall color in shades of red, orange, and yellow. This species is new to science as of 2020! The the cultivar name is in honor of its original discovery by botanist and naturalist Fred Nation in Baldwin County, Alabama and the species name honors Dr. Ron Miller. Provide an average moist, well-drained, acidic soil in full to partly sunny location for optimum vigor and flowering. Redneck Nation Fothergilla can be used as a low growing and low maintenance informal hedge or as a specimen plant in the garden and landscape as well as in naturalistic settings.
