2019 New Camellias and Sasanquas

Check out our newest Camellia and Sasanqua additions for the 2019 and 2020 season! These are excellent low maintenance evergreen shrubs for use as specimen plants, as hedges and screens, shape them into tree forms, and even as bonsai and container plants. Camellias and Sasanquas are great for adding bright cheery colors to the fall, winter, and early spring garden and landscape. April Remembered Camellia

Camellia japonica 'April Remembered'  

The petals of these large double flowers are a deep pink fading to light pink and surround a boss of yellow tipped stamens. April Remembered Camellia is an exceptionally long flowering hybrid which can begin flowering in fall with flowers produced into spring (late-season). This is a medium sized evergreen shrub useful as a hedge or a lower specimen to set in front of its larger growing cousins or on its own as a specimen plant in the garden and landscape. April Remembered is a member of the Ice Angels series developed by Dr. Clifford Parks for improved cold hardiness into zone 6. Item# 11786

Grace Albritton Camellia

Camellia japonica 'Grace Albritton'  

A Camellia Hall of Fame Award winner! The variably colored medium sized flowers of Grace Albritton Camellia can range from white to blush pink to near rosy red with heavy to almost no variegation which is typically most noticeable at the outer edges of the flowers. Each flower on the same plant can be different. This is a vigorous and highly adored older large flowered Japonica Camellia that flowers in mid to late season. Jury's Yellow Camellia

Camellia x williamsii 'Jury's Yellow', C. japonica 'Jury's Yellow'  

The medium sized anemone form flowers are composed of a row of white outer petals centered by pale yellowish petaloids interspersed with golden stamens helping to create the yellow effect that has long been sought after in Camellias and this was one of the earliest hybrids to display it. Jury's Yellow Camellia is a long flowering hybrid that begins early in the season and continues into late season.  This is a moderately vigorous 'x williamsii' hybrid with an upright to rounded habit and dense branching growth habit. Use this large evergreen shrub as a specimen in the garden and landscape or as a container plant. Camellias prefer a moist to average moist well-drained loamy to sandy acidic soil with a deep organic mulch. Item# 11665

The variably colored medium sized semi-double flowers of this beauty are composed of wavy petals that can range from near white to blush pink with medium pink toward the center and seemingly random splashes, flecks, and stripes of bright red, or no red at all, that surround a boss of yellow stamens. The 2-3" wide pure white frilly double flowers nearly glow against a backdrop of glossy dark green medium textured foliage over an extended period in fall and early winter. Mine-No-Yuki Sasanqua Camellia is an heirloom medium to large evergreen shrub with a vigorous upright to spreading habit. As with many old favorites this one has garnered a few extra cultivar names which include: Snow on the Mountain, White Doves, and Snow on the Ridge. Sarasa Camellia

Camellia japonica 'Sarasa'  

A K. Sawada 1939 introduction, Sarasa Camellia produces medium-sized semi-double pale flesh-pink flowers with contrasting dark purplish-pink flecks and stripes with a boss of gold tipped stamens against a backdrop of deep green glossy foliage. As per his 1934 watercolor record, Mr. Sawada says that this is a "very free bloomer" flowering in early to midseason (Dec-Feb). Sarasa originated from seed initially planted in 1925 that his brother had gathered and sent him from Japanese gardens. Item# 11834

Yuhsiensis Fragrant Camellia

Camellia yuhsienensis  

From a profusion of buds emerge 3" wide, pure white, nicely fragrant flowers whose petals are notched at the end and surround a boss of yellow stamens. Yuhsienensis Camellia is a moderately vigorous grower with a naturally dense branching habit on an upright to rounded evergreen shrub. Flowering begins early in the season and may continue well into midseason (November to January). This is a parent of the hybrid Yume Camellia which itself was used to create the "Dream" series from Bobby Green and Green's Nurseries. Camellia yuhsienensis has also been used to breed fragrant Camellia cultivars. Item# 11334
