Small dutchman's pipe shaped primrose yellow flowers with a dark maroon throat are produced in spring atop the hairy foliage and stems. The Wooly Ducthman's Pipevine is a twining perennial native vine typically found growing in moist sandy soils along stream banks and near other perennial water sources. Anytime that I have personally seen this vine in the wild it always seems to be eaten up by Pipevine Swallowtail caterpillars and it is an excellent native host plant for them. The Wooly Dutchman's Pipevine, Aristolochia tomentosa, is most abundant in the south central US from the eastern half of Texas to extreme western Georgia and north to the southern half of Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and western Kentucky. Provide a full to partly sunny location in sandy or loamy soils with average moisture. Item# 11794
