Japanese Stewartia, Korean Stewartia, Deciduous Camellia

Stewartia pseudocamellia, S. koreana

The 2-1/2" wide flowers are composed of a single row of overlapping pure white petals that surround a boss of contrasting golden yellow stamens and are produced in early summer. The petals fall to create a blanket of white on the ground similar to what a Sasanqua Camellia does . A Camellia cousin, the Japanese Stewartia, Stewartia pseudocamellia, is a highly desirable small to medium-sized, single to occassionally multi-trunked, deciduous tree with excellent fall color in red and purple tones and showy exfoliating copper and silver colored bark providing winter interest. It will perform best in a consistently average moist, well-drained, loamy, acidic soil rich in organic matter. In areas with hot summer climates, zones 7-8, provide the Japanese Stewartia with afternoon shade or filtered shade, in more northerly latitudes, zones 5-6, it is tolerant of full sun conditions. A loosely double Tropical Hibiscus with large pumpkin orange flowers that are borne in abundance throughout much of the where kept warm and provided with ample sunlight. Joanne Tropical Hibiscus, we have sold this as 'Double Orange' for many years and have finally discovered its true name, is a fairly full and compact growing, yet vigorous and free flowering hibiscus that lends itself to containers and tropical garden settings. Katy Dwarf Pink Mexican Petunia is a lovely dwarf perennial that produces loads of pink trumpet shaped flowers tucked in among the narrow dark green glossy foliage from spring to frost on a compact low mounding plant. This durable perennial makes a great border, groundcover, or makes a great addition to containers. The flowers of Ruellias attract bees, butterflies, and even the occassional hummingbird although they would not be as likely to get this near the ground. Where winters experience freezing temperatures (zones 8A-9B) this tough little tropical perennial may freeze back to near ground level but generally readily returns in spring once soil temperatures begin to warm. Item# 917

Multitudes of 3-4" wide golden yellow daisies with a tan to dark brown 'eye' sit atop sturdy 18-24" stems and are produced in late spring to early summer and may repeat if deadheaded. The Large-Flower or Rough Coneflower, Rudbeckia grandiflora, is a tough and easy to grow clump forming perennial that can produce 80 or more flowering stems per clump once mature. This is probably one of the most underutilized native perennials as it has one of the most uniform habits of the native Coneflowers, it is long-lived and it can tolerate the moist to wet settings of acid bogs as well as short periods of drought once well-established. This is one of the major components of our Once-Mown Meadows here onsite. Provide a full to mostly sunny site for optimum vigor and flowering. Lavender Lady Passionflower, Passion vine

Passiflora x 'Lady Lavender'

An exceptionally free flowering passionvine, Lady Lavender produces 3-4" wide, lightly fragrant flowers with purple sepals and petals that fade to near white near their base. The flowers are topped by a corona of blue filaments that fade to white and then darken to deep burgundy at their base. Lady Lavender Passionflower is a sterile Patrick Worley cultivar considered to be hardy to near 10oF. It is large and vigorous enough to cover a medium to large trellis easily in one season or it can be enjoyed as a container plant where not hardy. Provide a full to mostly sunny location and a moderately fertile soil with average drainage for the best flowering.
