High Fragrance Camellia

Camellia x 'High Fragrance'

Wonderfully fragrant, sometimes compared to Jasmine, Sweet Peas, and Rose, medium to large, pale to medium pink, peony form flowers are born in mid to late season (typically March-April). High Fragrance is a vigorous growing Camellia with a strongly upright to open habit that lends itself to tree forms. Flowers may not produce fragrance until the second day after opening. While the High Fragrance Camellia is considered to be hardy to zone 7, we find that the flower buds are cold sensitive and can be frozen at 10-15oF making this cultivar better suited to zones 8B and warmer or grow it as a container plant where not hardy. Hanging clusters of buttery yellow fragrant flowers that are centered by a purple to burgundy star-shaped corona are produced during the warmer months of the year. Hoya cumingiana, or Paluki in its native Phillipines, is somewhat of a sprawling shrub-like Hoya with closely stacked small rounded glossy medium green foliage that may be at its best when trained to a support like a small trellis. Its foliage is nice enough that it could be grown for its architectural form with the flowers simply as a bonus. This is considered to be one of the easier to grow shrub-like Hoyas that mainly needs to be allowed to dry out somewhat between waterings. The fragrant flowers are likely to draw butterflies and other pollinators. Its ease of growth, unusual looking foliage, and fragrant flowers make this Hoya one of the more sought after species. HUMDINGER® Gold Drop Butterfly Bush, Buddleja

Buddleja 'Gold Drop'  PP34266

The conical flower clusters are composed of numerous fragrant purple flowers that are held against a contrasting foil of golden yellow foliage and attract a variety of pollinators from summer into fall. HUMDINGER® Gold Drop Butterfly Bush is heavier flowering, has better foliage color, and has a more compact habit than its predecessor Little Nugget. This is a deciduous to semi-evergreen shrub, to die-back perennial in zone 5-6, with a densely branching compact, naturallly rounded habit that matures to about 3'H x 3-4'W. The fragrant purple flowers attract butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, and other garden beneficals. The HUMDINGER® series of Butterfly Bushes were selected for their compact habit and excellent flower power lending them to use both in the garden and landscape as well as in containers. Incense Passionflower, Passionvine

Passiflora x 'Incense'

The deep purple 3-4", richly fragrant exotic looking flowers are produced throughout the growing season on this vigorous Passionvine with medium green foliage. Incense is considered to be one of the hardiest passionvines for US gardens along with the native Maypop Passionvine, Passiflora incarnata, one of its parents, and the US native Yellow Passionvine, Passiflora lutea. In our experience Incense rarely produces fruit on its own and some sources suggest that hand pollination is required. Like the native Maypop Passionflower, Incense readily spreads by rhizomes. Caterpillar host: Gulf Fritillary, Julia Butterfly, Variegated Fritillary, and Zebra Longwing. Click on "More Details and Growing Info" or the image to learn more about growing Passionvines as perennials in containers or in the garden and landscape. Item # 464.

It is considered to be root hardy into zone 9 and may remain evergreen in mild winter climates. Where not hardy it may be enjoyed as a container plant and overwintered in a sunny window.
