Swamp Sunflower, Narrowleaf Sunflower
Helianthus angustifolius
In late summer and fall, masses of 2-3" wide, golden yellow daisies with darkly contrasting near black eyes seemingly cover up these plants attracting a variety of pollinators, especially bees. The Swamp Sunflower, Helianthus angustifolius, is a clump forming, medium to large growing, upright to spreading, branching, herbaceous, native perennial to 4-8' high and 2-4' wide on often bronze to red stems adorned with dark green narrow foliage. This plant never fails to turn heads when it covers up our roadsides, meadows, and prairies in the fall! Use this easy to grow native as part of a sunny perennial border or landscape, as well as in naturalistic settings like meadows, prairies, and roadsides. Provide a full to mostly sunny site in an average moist soil with average or better drainage. Caterpillar host: Milbert's Tortoiseshell. Item# 10419
