Yellow and Green Figs

Alma Fig

Ficus carica 'Alma'  

Alma, bred by the Texas ARS, produces a large crop medium to large pear shaped to rounded green fruit that ripens to yellow or bronze. The amber to pink flesh of Alma is considered to be excellent with a rich and very sweet flavor. The small eye is filled with honeydew and is highly resistant to spoiling making this a good choice for the South and Southeastern US. Alma bears fruit at a young age. Excellent fresh, dried, or preserved. The highly productive trees are smaller than average with a compact habit and with good vigor. Late season ripening. Conadria Fig

Ficus carica 'Conadria'  

Conadria produces large green, thin-skinned figs that ripen to light greenish yellow and droop when ripe. The flesh is white and the pulp can range from red to amber with a rich, sweet, and distinctive flavor. The large figs are good for fresh eating, drying, and preserves. With honey sweet amber flesh and a lightly tart yellow green outer skin the Blanche Fig (its original name according to Dr. Ira Condit) has long been a favorite for fresh eating or drying. A vigorous fig that produces even in areas with short growing seasons it is known to produce two good crops where summers are longer. In the Southern US it is known as the Lemon Fig and is popular in the Northwest and California for home orchards where it is known as White Marseille or Lattarula. Kadota produces heavy crops of medium sized flattened green figs that ripen to a yellow green color. The fruit has white flesh and an amber pulp with small seeds and excellent to fair flavor. Good for fresh eating and drying and LSU says it is an excellent choice for preserves. The open eye is filled with honeydew which prevents souring. Little Ruby Dwarf Fig

A dwarf and hardy fig that is an excellent choice for patio culture as far north as zone 6. Little Ruby produces a breba crop of medium sized sweet red figs with strawberry colored flesh. Developed by the same retired biologist who gave us the hardy and huge Olympian Fig, Denny McGaughy, he chose this seedling for its hardiness, compact habit, as well as reliability. LSU Gold Fig

Ficus carica 'LSU Gold'  

Developed at LSU by Dr. Ed O'Rourke and company for fig production in the hot humid South, LSU Gold produces large flattened green figs that ripen to greenish yellow, yellow, or yellow blushed with red. Tater flesh is pink to amber and is very sweet with excellent flavor. The open eye of LSU Gold is typically filled with honeydew making it fairly resistant to souring and it is also split resistant. Produces a good breba crop and is very productive and vigorous. Caterpillar host: Ruddy Daggerwing. One of John's top 3 favorites.Item# 831.

Scott's Yellow Fig, Brandy Fig

Ficus carica 'LSU Scott's Yellow'  

Produces medium-sized yellow to bronze tinged, pear-shaped figs with a sweet rich, amber flesh and a closed eye making it resistant to spoiling in areas with high rain fall. LSU Scott's Yellow Fig, a.k.a Brandy, is a selection made by Dr. O'Rourke of LSU. It produces both a good breba crop on well-established plants as well as a large early season crop. Considered to be sweeter and a better producer than LSU Gold by some accounts. Fig trees grow best in a full to mostly sunny site with a fertile, well-drained soil with average moisture. Smith Fig, Becnel's Smith Fig

Ficus carica 'Smith'  

The Smith Fig is an heirloom Louisiana variety that was introduced by Becnel Nursery near New Orleans, Louisiana. It produces large yellow fruit with a sweet red flesh. The Strawberry Fig produces large crops of medium to large dark green rounded to flattened fruit that may be blushed with purple and has a medium, open eye. The flesh is white with a dark purple pulp of excellent flavor and the fruit can be eaten fresh, dried, or preserved. Excellent quality and a good choice for drier Southern and Southwestern climates as well as cool climates as the fruit is only somewhat resistant to spoiling. Caterpillar host: Ruddy Daggerwing.
