These are figs that are generally small and compact enough to produce even in medium-sized containers and then can be overwintered in a warm sheltered area.
 


Fignomenal Fig

Ficus carica 'PT-DF-14'  PP32537

A branch sport of Chicago Hardy with very short internodes producing a very compact, well-branched plant that is a good producer and is ideal for container culture. Expect Fignomenal to produce large crops of medium to small nearly black to brown or violet, pear shaped to turbinate figs with amber to strawberry flesh with a rich sweet flavor. Provide a full to mostly sunny site in a well-drained, average moist, fertile soil for optimum vigor and fruit production. Protect young trees for the first few years especially in zones 8A and colder while they become established. Caterpillar host: Ruddy Daggerwing. Item# 13249

Little Ruby Dwarf Fig

Ficus carica 'Little Ruby'  

A dwarf and hardy fig that is an excellent choice for patio culture as far north as zone 6. Little Ruby produces a breba crop of medium sized sweet red figs with strawberry colored flesh. Developed by the same retired biologist who gave us the hardy and huge Olympian Fig, Denny McGaughy, he chose this seedling for its hardiness, compact habit, as well as reliability. Little Ruby is so compact in fact that it is sometimes selected as a bonsai specimen. Caterpillar host: Ruddy Daggerwing. Item# 11025

LSU Gold Fig

Ficus carica 'LSU Gold'  

Developed at LSU by Dr. Ed O'Rourke and company for fig production in the hot humid South, LSU Gold produces large flattened green figs that ripen to greenish yellow, yellow, or yellow blushed with red. Tater flesh is pink to amber and is very sweet with excellent flavor. The open eye of LSU Gold is typically filled with honeydew making it fairly resistant to souring and it is also split resistant. Produces a good breba crop and is very productive and vigorous. Caterpillar host: Ruddy Daggerwing. One of John's top 3 favorites.Item# 831.

Violette de Bordeaux Fig, Negronne Fig

Ficus carica 'Violette de Bordeaux'  

Violette De Bordeaux, the dark purple form of Bordeaux, produces medium sized purple fruit with dark purplish-red flesh. The tree is dwarf and compact making it suitable for containers and is one the more cold hardy varieties tolerating zone 6 winters.
