Sasanquas - Red

Large, pure white centers, cupped, Higo-like single flowers are heavily edged in a starkly contrasting broad, deep red to cherry red band that quickly fades to white and are centered by a large boss of yellow stamens and are produced very early in the season in October. One of the earliest Camellias to flower and are sure to attract bees and other pollinators. Autumn Sunrise Sasanqua Camellia, bred by Dr. Clifford Parks, is a vigorous growing, large evergreen shrub with an upright habit and dark green medium textured foliage. Its vigor lends Autumn Sunrise to use as a screen, hedge, or specimen plant. Provide Camellias with a fertile soil rich in organic matter, with average moisture, and an organic mulch. Large double, dark rosy red flowers with a boss of golden yellow stamens are produced early in the season. Dazzler Sasanqua Camellia is moderately vigorous and can easily develop into a large shrub or small evergreen tree with time but it is also suitable for use as a hedge, screen, or specimen plant. Small, semi-double, crimson red to rose red flowers with wavy and twisty inner petals, and may have white spots, are centered by a boss of contrasting gold stamens atop white filaments. Flowers are produced early in the season, October to December, attracting bees and other pollinators. Hiryu Sasanqua Camellia, a Camellia x vernalis hybrid, is a vigorous growing heirloom Sasanqua with an upright, well-branched, spreading habit and medium-textured small, dark green, glossy foliage that can exceed 12' high at maturity. Its vigor lends it to use as a screen, hedge, or specimen plant as well as tree forms. The Sasanqua Camellias are much more tolerant of growing conditions than standard Japonica Camellias and can tolerate less than perfect soils and full sun to light shade conditions. The small to medium-sized, double, ruby red to rose red flowers, occasionally with a lavender tinge, showing varying amounts of yellow stamens among the central petaloids, are produced early in the season, October to December. Sparkling Burgundy Sasanqua Camellia, a C. hiemalis hybrid with Shi-Shi Gashira lineage, has a vigorous, yet compact, well-branched habit growing to about 5-7' high and equally wide and is cloaked in medium-textured, dark green, glossy foliage. Use this medium-sized evergreen shrub as a fall flowering accent, hedge, or even a container plant in formal or informal settings. This was one of the earliest patented Camellias assigned USPP1539. The Sasanqua Camellias are much more tolerant of growing conditions than standard Japonica Camellias and can tolerate less than perfect soils and full sun to light shade conditions. Item# 13229
