Camellia 'Afternoon Delight'  

Loads of deep reddish-pink small single flowers, occasionally tinged purple, with a contrasting boss of golden yellow stamens are produced late in the season. Afternoon Delight Sasanqua Camellia is a vigorous growing, large evergreen shrub with a naturally upright to arching habit making it a good choice as a specimen plant, hedge or screen.  Provide Camellias with a fertile soil rich in organic matter, with average moisture, and a deep organic mulch. Autumn Sunrise Sasanqua Camellia

Camellia x 'Autumn Sunrise'  

Large, pure white, cupped, Higo-like single flowers are heavily edged in a starkly contrasting broad, deep red to cherry red band that quickly fades to white and are centered by a large boss of yellow stamens and are produced very early in the season in October. One of the earliest Camellias to flower and are sure to attract bees and other pollinators. Autumn Sunrise Sasanqua Camellia, bred by Dr. Clifford Parks, is a vigorous growing, large evergreen shrub with an upright habit and dark green medium textured foliage. Its vigor lends Autumn Sunrise to use as a screen, hedge, or specimen plant. Provide Camellias with a fertile soil rich in organic matter, with average moisture, and an organic mulch. Chansonette Sasanqua Camellia

Camellia hiemalis 'Chansonette'  

This award winner boasts 3" wide, brilliant pink, formal double flowers that are produced very early in the season, October to December. The flowers may show golden stamens at times. Chansonette Sasanaqua Camellia, a seedling of the famed Shi-Shi Gashira and a C. hiemalis type, is a moderately vigorous, broadly spreading, small to medium-sized evergreen shrub with a somewhat loose and open habit growing to about 4-5' high and nearly twice as wide. It has medium-textured, deep green foliage typical of most Sasanquas and should make for a colorful fall accent or informal hedge. Sasanqua Camellias are much more tolerant of growing conditions than standard Japonica Camellias and can tolerate less than perfect soils and full sun to light shade conditions. Cotton Candy Sasanqua Camellia

Camellia sasanqua 'Cotton Candy'  

Medium-sized, cotton candy pink, semi-double flowers often showing at least some gold tipped stamens are produced early in the season, October to December. The light colored flowers are set off by the foil of glossy, deep dark green, medium-textured foliage. Cotton Candy Sasanqua Camellia is an older but still quite popular cultivar, with a vigorous upright to spreading, well-branched habit maturing into a medium-sized evergreen shrub. Useful as a hedge, accent, or specimen plant in the garden and landscape as well as for container culture.  The Sasanqua Camellias are much more tolerant of growing conditions than standard Japonica Camellias and can tolerate less than perfect soils and full sun to light shade conditions. Kanjiro Sasanqua Camellia

Camellia hiemalis 'Kanjiro'  

The small to medium-sized, semi-double, rich rosy pink flowers are centered by a boss of contrasting golden stamens, and each petal may be lightly to moderately centered by white. The flowers are produced early in the season providing a burst of color for mid to late fall. Kanjiro Sasanqua Camellia, a selection of Camellia hiemalis, is a vigorous, upright growing, large evergreen shrub becoming rounded with age. It can be used as a screen, tall hedge, as a specimen plant, and can also be trained into a tree form. Sasanquas are considered much more adaptable to sun or shade as well as soil types, provided they have good drainage, moderate fertility, and an acidic pH. An RHS Award of Garden Merit winner! The small to medium-sized, double, ruby red flowers with a lavender tinge, showing varying amounts of yellow stamens among the central petaloids, are produced early in the season, October to December. Sparkling Burgundy Sasanqua Camellia is a C. hiemalis hybrid with Shi-Shi Gashira lineage with a vigorous yet compact well-branched habit and cloaked in medium-textured, dark green, glossy foliage growing about as high as wide. Use this medium-sized evergreen shrub as a fall flowering accent, hedge, or even a container plant in formal or informal settings. This was one of the earliest patented Camellias assigned USPP1539. Winter's Star Sasanqua Camellia

Camellia x hiemalis 'Winter's Star'  

Zone 6 US National Arboretum introduction! Medium-sized, single, pink often described with a lavender tinge, flowers with a boss of sunny yellow stamens are produced in fall or early in the season, October to November, and are held against a foil of glossy, deep green, medium-textured foliage. Winter's Star Sasanqua Camellia, an Ackerman cross using C. oleifera for cold hardiness and is listed with the C. x hiemalis hybrids, is a vigorous growing, medium-sized, evergreen shrub with a fairly upright and rounded, densely branching habit. It has taken temperatures as low as -12oF with no apparent damage and no protection except for that of pine trees overhead per Dr. Ackerman's description in the U.S. National Arboretum's pamphlet for these introductions. The Sasanqua Camellias are much more tolerant of growing conditions than standard Japonica Camellias and can tolerate less than perfect soils and full sun to light shade conditions.
