Eskimo Dawn Sasanqua Camellia

Camellia 'Eskimo Dawn' or C. oleifera 'Eskimo Dawn'  

Pure white, formal double, a.k.a. rose or perfect form, flowers are produced in fall and standout like spotlights against the foil of deep dark green, glossy, medium-textured foliage. Eskimo Dawn Sasanqua Camellia, potentially a selection or hybrid of C. oleifera, is an exceptionally cold hardy, small to medium-sized evergreen shrub with a slow growth rate making it a good choice for container culture as well as for a low maintenance small hedge, accent, or specimen in the garden and landscape. Camellia sasanqua 'Mine-No-Yuki, C. sasanqua 'Snow on the Mountain'  

The 2-3" wide pure white frilly double flowers nearly glow against a backdrop of glossy dark green medium textured foliage over an extended period in fall and early winter. Mine-No-Yuki Sasanqua Camellia is an heirloom medium to large evergreen shrub with a vigorous upright to spreading habit. As with many old favorites this one has garnered a few extra cultivar names which include: Snow on the Mountain, White Doves, and Snow on the Ridge. Sasanqua Camellias make excellent fall and early winter flowering hedges, screens, or specimen plants for the garden and landscape. Polar Ice Sasanqua Camellia

Camellia 'Polar Ice'  

Zone 6 US National Arboretum introduction! Small to medium-sized, white, anemone form to semi-double flowers and may show off golden stamens, are produced early in the season, October to November, and are held against a foil of glossy, deep green, medium-textured foliage. Polar Ice Sasanqua Camellia, an Ackerman cross using C. oleifera for cold hardiness, is a vigorous growing, medium-sized, evergreen shrub with a fairly upright to spreading, densely branching habit. It has taken temperatures as low as -12oF with no apparent damage and no protection except for that of pine trees overhead per Dr. Ackerman's description in his and Dr. Egolf's 1991 article Winter's Rose', `Snow Flurry', and `Polar Ice' Camellias on these U.S. Arboretum introductions. The Sasanqua Camellias are much more tolerant of growing conditions than standard Japonica Camellias and can tolerate less than perfect soils and full sun to light shade conditions. Setsugekka Sasanqua Camellia

Camellia sasanqua 'Setsugekka'  

Large, 4-5" wide, fragrant, semi-double flowers of the purist white with wavy petals and a contrasting boss of golden yellow stamens shine like spotlights against the foil of deep green glossy foliage. Flowering begins early in the season in October continuing into December, with a few flowers into early January. Setsugekka Sasanqua Camellia has a vigorous moderately upright habit that rounds out with at maturity. This dense foliage of this large evergreen shrub lend it to use as a specimen, screen, hedge, or even a small evergreen tree form. The Sasanqua Camellias are tolerant of full sun to part sun conditions. Provide an average moist, average to well drained, moderately fertile, acidic soil rich in organic matter and an organic mulch for optimum vigor and flowering. Item# 10183

Stars 'N Stripes Sasanqua Camellia

Camellia 'Stars 'N Stripes'  

A rare striped Sasanqua! This is a heavily flowering plant that produces loads of medium-sized, single to semi-double, white flowers that are randomly striped and often heavily edged with starkly contrasting deep rose red and are centered by a boss of nicely contrasting yellow stamens. Flowering occurs in early to midseason, October to January, attracting bees with ample pollen. Stars 'N Stripes Sasanqua Camellia has a moderate rate of growth with an upright to spreading, densely branching habit and matures into a medium-sized, evergreen shrub. The dark green, medium-textured, glossy foliage acts as a wonderful foil to its fall flowers and is sure to be a conversation piece. Sure to make a neat choice for a hedge, specimen, or accent in the garden and landscape as well as for container culture. The Sasanqua Camellias are much more tolerant of growing conditions than standard Japonica Camellias and can tolerate less than perfect soils and full sun to light shade conditions. Winter's Snowman Sasanqua Camellia

Camellia x 'Winter's Snowman'  

Pink tinged buds open to 2 1/2-3" wide, ruffled, fragrant, anemone-form to semi-double flowers with a boss of golden yellow stamens that are produced early in the season in Nov-December. Winter's Snowman Sasanqua Camellia is a hybrid that was selected for its reliable zone 6 cold hardiness, clean white fragrant flowers, as well as for its vigor. This is a naturally fairly large growing evergreen shrub with medium textured, deep green Sasanqua-like foliage that emerges burgundy in spring similar to the Red-Tip Photinia and extending its seasons of interest. Like a Sasanqua, Winter's Snowman can be maintained as a 4-6'H hedge, formal to informal screen, or allow it to grow into a naturally large evergreen shrub to small tree with a naturally upright to spreading habit. Provide Camellias with a fertile soil rich in organic matter, with average moisture, and a deep organic mulch. Yuhsiensis Fragrant Camellia

Camellia yuhsienensis  

From a profusion of buds emerge 3" wide, pure white, nicely fragrant flowers whose petals are notched at the end and surround a boss of yellow stamens. Yuhsienensis Camellia is a moderately vigorous grower with a naturally dense branching habit on an upright to rounded evergreen shrub. Flowering begins early in the season and may continue well into midseason (November to January). This is a parent of the hybrid Yume Camellia which itself was used to create the "Dream" series from Bobby Green and Green's Nurseries. Camellia yuhsienensis has also been used to breed fragrant Camellia cultivars. Item# 11334
