Lightly fragrant golden orange to yellow flowers are produced in large spike-like inflorescences throughout summer on this vigorous Hawaiian hybrid likely attracting butterflies, the occasional hummingbird, and the pollinating Sphinx Moths. Disney Scarlet Ginger

Tall spikes of soft to medium orange flowers sit atop sturdy upright stems and are produced over a long period in summer on well-established plantings. This ginger's sweetly fragrant flowers attract larger butterflies like Swallowtails and Giant Sulphurs. The Disney form of the Scarlet Ginger is one of the more compact and erect growing forms of this species. Disney is also known as the Honduras Form and as the Orange Brush Ginger.  is a naturally evergreen, rhizomatous and slowly spreading, tropical that acts like a root hardy, die-back perennial in areas where freezes occur. It multiplies readily but not invasively. Fragrant peachy orange butterfly-shaped lightly fragrant flowers are produced in large spikes in summer atop tall sturdy stems adorned with heavily variegated white and green tropical looking foliage. Dr. Moy Improved is, as the name would imply, an improved selection of 'Dr Moy', which was one of if not the first variegated Hedychiums available, with heavier streaks and splashes of clean white variegation that contrasts wonderfully with the deep green portions of the foliage. French Kiss Red Buttons Ginger, Indian Head Ginger

The showy and long-lasting deep red pine-cone like flower heads are produced throughout the growing season and may be produced throughout the year under warm tropical conditions. French Kiss is a selection of the Red Buttons Ginger with a free flowering habit that lends it to use en mass in a partly shaded garden or landscape or as a low maintenance specimen plant for containers. Orange and yellow individual flowers emerge singly or a few at the time from between the showy red bracts that make up the flower heads. Medium green rounded foliage. Manipur Gold Ginger

Hedychium 'Manipur Gold'  

Large spikes of headily fragrant, golden yellow butterfly-shaped flowers are accented with a darker orange blotch and red-orange anthers and filaments all atop sturdy red tinged 4-5' high stems and glossy dark green foliage. Manipur Gold Ginger is considered to potentially be an as yet unnamed species from Manipur province of northeastern India and was originally introduced by Tim Chapman of Gingerwood Nursery in southern Louisiana. The fragrant showy flowers should attract larger butterflies and maybe even the hummingbird-like pollinating Sphinx moths. Provide gingers with a rich, moist, and well-drained soil for optimum growth and flowering in an area that receives at least some direct sunlight or ample filtered sunlight. The flowers of the large type Hedychium gingers can also be used for fresh cut flowers once the flowers of the spike have begun opening as long as the fragrance is not overpowering indoors. A White Butterfly Ginger on steroids! The spike-like clusters produce 4" wide, fragrant, butterfly-shaped white flowers with a creamy heart in late summer and into fall atop large sturdy upright stems with large tropical-looking rich green foliage. The Maximum Giant White Butterfly Ginger, likely a tetraploid or hybrid of Hedychium coronarium, has some of the largest stems, flowers, and (up to 2" diameter) rhizomes of any Hedychium we have grown to date! A naturally evergreen, rhizomatous slowly multiplying tropical, it acts like a die-back perennial in areas where freezes occur, reliably returning in zones 7B to 10. The Hedychium Gingers typically grow and flower best where they receive at least some direct sunlight for 3-4 hours during the day and generally have the best looking foliage where they receive shade during the heat of the day. Molten Gold Ginger, a hybrid Hedychium, is a naturally dwarf, rhizomatous herbaceous tropical to die-back perennial that can be enjoyed both as a container specimen or in the garden and landscape in zones 7-10. The fragrant flowers are likely to attract butterflies and potentially hummingbirds and it is reported to flower about three times per year in winter, spring, and fall under warm freeze and frost-free conditions. As a container specimen, it can be brought indoors in winter into an area with direct sunlight to high indirect sunlight. Rich reddish-orange flowers emerge from dark spikes that sit atop sturdy upright to arching stems with blue tinted foliage and are produced over a long period in summer on well-established plantings. The Mark Collins form of the Scarlet Ginger is considered to be the same as the cultivar 'Palani' and was collected by the late Ginger guru in Bhutan or Nepal. The foliage of the Peacock Ginger goes dormant at the first sign of cool weather and during winter and re-emerges in spring once the ground temperatures have warmed. The 10-14" high, long-lasting spikes are composed of showy deep pinkish purple bracts above while the lower smaller waxy green bracts protect the fertile yellow flowers. Flowering typically occurs in late spring to early summer and at about the same time as the new foliage emerges. The Queen Lily or Common Hidden Ginger, *Curcuma petiolata (tentatively), is a naturally clump forming, slowly spreading, root hardy, deciduous tropical with large, textured, almost canna-like, medium green foliage. The Red Butterfly Ginger produces large deep reddish orange to red flowers that emerge from a darkened flower spike atop the sturdy stems of rich green smooth tropical looking foliage. It very much resembles the White Butterfly Ginger when in flower other than the flower color but has darker foliage a more compact habit. The Red Butterfly Ginger is one of the earliest gingers to flower in our collection. Provide a semi-shaded location where it receives shade during the hottest portion of the day although it is fairly tolerant.
