Find plants that have red leaves or stems or are marked with these colors. An easy way to color coordinate for your garden, containers, and landscapes.

Up to 3/4" diameter, lightly fragrant, dense Sputnik-like flower clusters are composed of numerous small creamy white to light pink, funnel-shaped flowers that are tipped in purple often giving the flowers a lavender cast and the long white styles and creamy white stigmas provide the spikey look. The nectar rich flowers are produced throughout the warmer months of the year, late spring and often into fall, attracting an array of pollinators. The very dark green foliage has a mirror like glossiness and creates a contrasting foil for the flowers. Well-established plants grown in a full to mostly sunny position can flower on and off throughout the growing season. Rosa's Blush Darrow's Dwarf Blueberry

Vaccinium darrowii 'Rosa's Blush'

Yes it fruits but it's fine textured evergreen foliage is fantastic! The bright pink new growth of spring matures to a dusty blue-green with hints of pink in summer, followed by deep purplish-blue in fall which deepens through winter. Clusters of 3/8" edible blue fruit that ripen in May-June, follow the light pink bell-shaped flowers of early spring. Rosa's Blush is grown mainly for its compact habit and beautifully colored, fine textured, ever-changing foliage as the berries ripen a few at the time over a long period. Pick the blue-black fruit once fully soft for the best flavor and like most blueberries a cross pollinator is required for the best fruit set. Item# 9206.

Temple Bells Pieris, Lily of the Valley Bush, Andromeda

Pieris ryukyuensis 'Temple Bells', P. japonica

The large waterfall like clusters (racemes) of white, bell-shaped flowers that are produced in late winter and early spring and last for weeks, absolutely shine against the dark green foliage covering the upper and outer portions of this easy evergreen shrub. Temple Bells Pieris, Pieris japonica 'Temple Bells', is a small to medium-sized evergreen shrub with a slow rate of growth. The glossy deep dark green ovate foliage that emerges in red to bronze shades and finally to medium green before deepening in color adding to this plants seasons of interest. This member of the Blueberry family, Ericaceae, is one of the more shade tolerant evergreens but it is perfectly happy in morning sun to filtered shade. Temple Bells Pieris will do best in a moist to average moist soil rich in organic matter, with average or better drainage and will happily grow anywhere that Azaleas, Camellias, and Japanese Maples thrive. It is more tolerant of calcareous soils than most members of this family, including in the midwest, but acidic soils are probably optimal. Provide an organic mulch and use slow release fertilizers that are labeled for acid loving plants. I pass by these shrubs in my mother's garden on the north side of her house twice a day and never tire of its welcome flowers during the dreary days of late winter when we are so ready for spring!
