The large, oval, green to blue green tropical foliage is heavily variegated with silvery white with a red-purple reverse and are perched at the ends of long red-purple petioles. The Never Never Plant, Ctenanthe setosa, is a suprisingly tough and cold hardy, rhizomatous, shade-loving tropical plant that can be grown as a container plant on a shaded porch or patio or utilize it as a low maintenance groundcover in mild winter climates (zones 9-10). It does prefer high humidity and so may need periodic misting or you can sit its container on a saucer full of rocks to supplement it. The stems of this Never Never Plant can reach nearly 3' high at maturity and like its cousins, the Prayer Plants, the leaves may fold up at night, they also have the ability to roll up to conserve moisture during dryer periods. Provide an average moist, fertile soil for optimum growth and vigor. Item# 12288

If kept from freezing temperatures they can easily reach 3-4' high or can be pruned to keep them in bounds. Parsley-Leaf Ming Aralia

Polyscias fruticosa 'Elegans'

Finely cut medium-textured parsley-like foliage adorns the short sturdy stems of this easy and adaptable naturally dwarf houseplant or bonsai specimen. The Parsley-Leaf Ming Aralia can reach 3-4' high but 1-2' high is more typical and it is easily kept smaller and more compact with periodic pruning. This is a relatively slow growing cultivar of the larger growing Ming Aralia and so is not likely to outgrow your space and is tolerant of a wide range of growing conditions provided you do not keep it too wet. Item# 9301

Outdoor Light: Cool sunlight, Filtered shade, Shade

An Almost Eden exclusive introduction! Clusters of 1" wide flowers whose rounded opposing bracts, that surround the orange and yellow true flowers, open a blush peachy pink and then lighten to creamy white as they age. Peach Blush Crown of Thorns, our own seedling selection of Euphorbia milii, is a vigorous cultivar with a naturally upright, well-branched habit eventually becoming vase shaped at maturity. It flowers heaviest from mid to late summer until about mid to late spring. The Crown of Thorns all make easy and forgiving indoor, porch, and patio specimen plants that are tolerant of the hottest full sun conditions as well as in a sunny window. Provide a well-draining cactus-like soil and never keep soggy wet. Established plants can flower continuously throughout the year when grown under frost and freeze free conditions and preferably when kept above 50oF. Persian Carpet Flower

Ceropegia sordida, Edithcolea grandis

The fleshy deep green to reddish green 1/2" diameter, 4-5 angled, branched stems are adorned with small spikey thorns that produces 3-5" wide pale yellow to near white starry flowers that are overlaid with intricate burgundy and dark burgundy variegation reminiscent of a Persian carpet. It can flower any time of year and multiple times per year once fully mature and under good conditions. Like Stapeliads, this plant is pollinated by flies and has a rotten carrion like odor to attract them but you may have to put your nose in the flower to notice it as it does not seem to permeate the air. The Persian Carpet Flower, Edithcolea grandis newly reclassified as Ceropegia sordida, is an evergreen herbaceous succulent from tropical Africa that can build to 4-8"H x 12"W and is typically found growing in partially shaded to occassionally full sun conditions in dry desert-like regions. Its main requirements are soils with excellent drainage and warm temperatures, preferably not below about 60oF. The Persian Carpet Flower should make an easy summer porch or patio plant or even as a hanging basket where it receives at least some direct sunlight during the day to promote flowering. It can tolerate slightly more moisture when in active growth but should still be allowed to become moderately dry between waterings. Reduce watering in winter, especially if grown under cool conditions. These are well-established young plants that are already branching. Item# 12457

Pink Princess Philodendron (Grower's Choice)

Philodendron erubescens 'Pink Princess'

The near black to deep burgundy, glossy, heart-shaped tropical foliage is splashed and flecked with pink and white and the images shown are examples of how extreme the variegation can be with entire leaves or large portions of leaves being entirely pink. The Pink Princess Philodendron, a selection or hybrid of Philodendron erubescens, is a slow growing vine-like tropical plant which can be allowed to trail or trained to a support. It is tolerant of medium to semi-bright light conditions indoors and should not be exposed to direct sunlight even through a window. Outdoors on or a shaded porch or patio, the plants should be in light shade with no direct sunlight which can burn the foliage.
