Camellias - Purple Tinged Japonicas

A Camellia Hall of Fame Award winner! The 3-4" wide, semi-double, rich pink flowers, often with a hint of purple, of Donation are born over an extended period in late winter and spring and show off a boss of yellow stamens. This is a large and vigorous, free flowering, upright growing Camellia hybrid with rich dark green, Sasanqua-like foliage. Item# 10632.

The small to medium-sized single flowers can range from red tinged to lavender often with purple veining and are centered by a large boss of contrasting yellow tipped white filaments and are produce late in mid to late season or March-April. Flower color tends to be the most purple where soils are strongly acidic and this seems to be fairly common for purple flowered Camellias. An unusual Camellia discovered in the gardens of the late K. Sawada, the large mahogany red, peony form flowers have darker mahogany red overtones with occasional white tipped and flecked petals.
