In late winter to early this tree literally covers up in clusters of pink-purple to red-purple pea-shaped flowers that are borne from seemingly every nook, cranny, and twig and even along much of the trunk. The Eastern Redbud is a small native deciduous tree with medium to large heart-shaped foliage and a broad spreading crown often as wide or nearly as wide as it is high. It is found naturally from central Texas and throughout the central US reaching into the New England states. Redbuds are often found with our native White Dogwoods in good quality well-drained sandy loam acidic soils.
