Rich reddish-orange flowers emerge from dark spikes that sit atop sturdy upright to arching stems with blue tinted foliage and are produced over a long period in summer on well-established plantings. The Mark Collins form of the Scarlet Ginger is considered to be the same as the cultivar 'Palani' and was collected by the late Ginger guru in Bhutan or Nepal. Camellia japonica 'Paulette Goddard'

Very large, semi-double to loose peony to anemone form to near rose form, rich red flowers, occasionally with some white on inner petaloids, and with occasional yellow tipped stamens peeking through are produced late in the season, March to April. Paulette Goddard Camellia is a large flowered Japonica with a moderate to vigorous, upright, densely branching habit becoming rounded with age. Paulette Goddard is another exceptional zone 6B cold hardy Japonica. Provide Camellias with a fertile soil rich in organic matter, with average moisture, and an organic mulch. A slightly more compact Joe-Pye Weed-like hybrid, in summer Phantom Eupatorium produces large rounded clusters of purplish-pink flowers that sit atop sturdy dark maroon stems adorned with large medium green Joe-Pye Weed-like foliage. This clump forming herbaceous perennial was selected for its shorter branchier habit, excellent flower power, and mildew resistance but in all other regards is very similar to its larger growing parent. At maturity Phantom Eupatorium develops into a large rounded perennial to about 5'x5' whose stems are topped in 12" wide clusters of nectar rich flowers for weeks attracting a bevy of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. The upright to arching stems are brightly adorned with hanging clusters of red, red-orange, to rarely yellow tubular flowers beginning in late spring and continuing until late summer. Pine-Leaved Penstemon or Beardtongue, Penstemon pinifolius, is a very low shrub-like perennial whose upright to arching stems are adorned with fine 1" long narrow deep green foliage that arises from what can become a woody base. Pineleaf or Pine-Leaved Penstemon is native to the dry desert regions of SE Arizona and SW New Mexico but is tolerant of moist conditions provided it has a very well-drained sandy to rocky mineral soil. It has been reported to be hardy into zone 3 but may require a 'dry' mulch and a protected area. This is an RHS Award of Garden Merit winner and we feel if it can perform exceptionally well in humid England it should do well in the humid Southeastern US. Item# 12419

Adorning purplish-red spikes and emerging from similarly colored calyxes, the mulberry pink tubular flowers are accented by contrasting white lower lips and a fuzzy bright fuchsia hood. Flowering occurs from late spring or early summer to fall. Pink Mulberry Salvia, an uncommon hybrid between S. greggii 'Alba' x S. involucrata, is a shrub-like, herbaceous tender perennial sage that lands somewhere between its parents in looks and growth habit reaching about 3-4' high and 2-3' wide by the end of the summer. Hummingbirds will likely be unable to resist its charming flowers and sweet nectar.
