This is the male pollinator for Finch's Gold and Warren's Red Possumhaw Hollies and so it only produces the dainty white and green flowers that attract bees and small pollinators but these plants do not set fruit. The female Possumhaw Holly, Ilex decidua, is also readily pollinated by the American Holly, Ilex opaca, and most any other native male holly that flowers at the same time as the female Possumhaws and one male can effectively pollinate several females. They do not necessarily have to planted next to one another but should be in the vicinity where the bees can transfer pollen. This is a large growing, multi-stemmed, native deciduous shrub or small tree that has few if any pests or diseases. They are quite tolerant of growing conditions from average moisture, to wet, to periodically flooded sites in full sun to partly shaded sites. Item# 12749

Small clusters of unusual looking, funnel-shaped deep red flowers are tipped with contrasting white and green with the insides of the flowers being streaked and flecked with brown. The flowers are produced in early to midsummer atop 2-3' high stems and attract hummingbirds and other pollinators. The Parrot Lily, Alstroemeria psittacina, is an old pass-a-long heirloom perennial whose rhizomatous habit may be too aggressive for most garden settings but in the right location it makes an easy and rewarding informal groundcover. Alstroemerias prefer an average moist, fertile, well-drained soil and tend to be sturdiest where they receive atleast 4 hours of direct sunlight. *Where summers are hot, consider providing shade or filtered shade during the hottest part of the day. Slim Milkweed

Asclepias linearis

Rounded clusters of small white and green starry flowers emerge from the leaf axils in spring and summer from the seemingly delicate upright to arching stems. Slim Milkweed could easily be confused with Whorled Milkweed and the difference is that Slim has opposite leaves and is rhizomatous whereas Whorled Milkweed of course has whorled leaves and is clump forming. Exclusive to the coastal prairies and prairies of southeastern and southcentral Texas, Asclepias linearis does well in clay soils and in well-drained soils and has been one of the easiest and most reliable species for us to grow and so it should be for gardeners. The flowers provide fodder for Bumblebees and other native bee species and you can expect the foliage to be used by the Monarch, Queen, and Soldier butterfly caterpillars. Item# 11661

Violacea Silver Squill, Wood Hyacinth, Scilla

Ledebouria socialis 'Violacea'

This is an easy to grow dwarf scilla or squill, tentatively Ledebouria socialis 'Violacea' as there are many similar horticultural forms within this species, is a dwarf growing, evergreen herbaceous tropical succulent that grows from a thickened above ground bulb and readily multiplies happily filling its container.
