Astronaut Evergreen Azalea, Holly Springs Astronaut Azalea

Rhododendron x 'Holly Springs Astronaut'

The out of this world very large, up to 5" across, funnel shaped flowers can range from solid salmon, to randomly flecked and streaked with salmon and pink, to white with randomly flecked with pink and are produced in late spring. Astronaut Azalea, a.k.a. Holly Springs Astronaut, is a Satsuki hybrid developing into a 3' high mound of deep green, medium textured, evergreen foliage. It lends itself to bonsai culture but is sure to be a low-maintenance conversation piece in the garden and landscape. Azaleas do best in average moist, acidic soils that are rich in organic matter but have good to excellent drainage and should be top dressed with an organic mulch such as pine straw and pine bark. Double White Serissa, Snowrose, Tree of a Thousand Stars, or Japanese Boxthorn

Serissa japonica 'Flore Pleno', S. foetida, Buchozia japonica

1/2" wide, pure white, double flowers almost resemble tiny white roses and the flowers shine against the foil of very dark green, small, ovate, fine textured foliage. The heaviest flowering typically occurs spring and may produce flowers sporadically into fall under good conditions. The Double White Serissa, Serissa foetida 'Flore Pleno', is a dwarf, naturally evergreen shrub with small fine-textured deep green glossy ovate leaves and a naturally mounding, semi-open habit and plants rarely exceed about 2'H x 2'W at maturity. In the past it has been used as a substitute for boxwood especially when a low clipped hedge was desired. Left to its own devices it may become more open with age and a semi-hard pruning can restore the plants to their former glory. Provide a well-drained, fertile, acidic sandy-loam and an organic mulch form optimum growth and vigor. Item# 390

The wide, thick, low succulent arching silvery green foliage is spotted and speckled with large and small dark green spots. Leaves may be occasionally lightly to heavily variegated with white. Ledebouria is a bulbous perennial that produces small spikes of white hyacinth-like flowers in spring and summer that are held well above the intricately patterned foliage. An easy and forgiving window sill or patio plant, Ledebourias are native to the forests of Eastern Africa and multiply readily and quickly. Do not keep overly moist and provide sharp drainage. Golden Dragon™ Japanese Plum Yew, Cow-Tail Pine

Cephalotaxus harringtoniana 'Golden Dragon', C. harringtonii

The bright buttery yellow, narrow foliage whorls densely around the upright stems and is tolerant of full sun conditions in the northern portions of its range without burning. A new twist on a popular old favorite, the Golden Dragon™ Plum Yew, a selection of Cephalotaxus harringtoniana, is a tough and easy, low maintenace, small evergreen shrub with a dense compact habit and a soft texture slowly growing to about 3-4' high and wide. It can be used as both low maintenance container specimens as well as in the garden and landscape where its brilliant foliage will create a wonderful contrast with its neighbors. *The Plum Yews can tolerate full sun in areas with cooler summer temperatures but may be best where they receive some midday and/or afternoon shade in hot summer climates. They are deer resistant and are shade tolerant but Golden Dragon™ will have the brightest foliage coloration where it receives at least some direct sunlight, preferably about 4 hours or more. Developed in Mobile, Alabaman these were bred for good performance in the heat and humidity of the Southeast.
