Camellias - Red Flowered Japonicas

The small to medium-sized single flowers can range from red tinged to lavender often with purple veining and are centered by a large boss of contrasting yellow tipped white filaments and are produce late in mid to late season or March-April. Flower color tends to be the most purple where soils are strongly acidic and this seems to be fairly common for purple flowered Camellias. An old and reliable favorite, Professor Charles S. Sargent Camellia produces dense rounded flowers that are simply packed with the dark red petals over an extended period from as early as late November to May. A vigorous and dense upright to rounded evergreen shrub. Item# 9195.

Beautiful dark purplish-red with a purplish tinge to the outer edges of the petals. Large formal double blooms to 5 inches across. Blooms winter to early spring. A reliable and easily grown Camellia. 'Purple Dawn', as it is offered locally, is considered to be actually 'Mathotiana' and it also known as: Julia Drayton, Mathotiana Rubra, Purple Emperor, Purple Prince, and William S. Woodville Red Produces large peony form fully double flowers of a nice medium red in midseason. Woodville Red is an old heirloom variety that was first brought to Woodville, MS from Europe in 1820. This large evergreen shrub has a naturally upright to rounded habit. Item# 9745.
