A vigorous award winning Louisiana Iris, Jeri produces loads of large, rich dark purple flowers in spring that are sure to stop traffic. Its vigor lends it to use as a tall groundcover for moist areas or it will do just fine in average moist garden soils. Provide Louisiana Irises with a moist to average moist to moderately wet site for the best results in a full to mostly sunny position. In average moist sites consider providing midday or filtered shade. Kevin Matthews Louisiana Iris produces large purple flowers with contrasting golden daggers outlined in black along the outer edges of the standards. This is a vigorous and hardy Louisiana Iris that is part of the Fallen Heroes series hybridized by Lee-Ann Connelly, now Shearouse, and marketed by Ag3 Inc. The large pink, dark-eyed flowers of Lady Baltimore Hibiscus are sure to make a statement in the late spring and summer garden. This root hardy, die-back perennial has a compact 5' x 5' habit and is tolerant of soil moisture levels ranging from average moist to wet soils. Intense pure red, massive, dinner plate sized flowers are produced beginning in early summer and continuing until fall on this vigorous and free flowering perennial Hibiscus. Lord Baltimore is one of the first widely cultivated Hardy Hibiscus developed by Robert Darby in the 1950's and it is still popular to this day! Perennial Hibiscus produce the largest flowers of any perennial in the garden and the rich red of Lord Baltimore may even stop traffic, if accidentally. Rich blue-violet falls with nicely contrasting large golden yellow signals are topped by blue-violet standards and style arms and are produced in mid to late season or April to May. Marie Caillet is an award winning Louisiana Iris growing to about 36-40" high. A rare color among Hardy Hibiscus, Marshmallow Moon produces medium to large, solid white, 6" wide saucer-shaped flowers with good substance and are produced in abundance from summer to fall. The flowers are a stand out against the backdrop of deep green foliage. Marshmallow Moon Hardy or Perennial Hibiscus is an indeterminate type meaning that they both begin flowering earlier and flower all up and down the stems instead of just on the upper half of the plant creating a knockout display in the garden and landscape. A White Butterfly Ginger on steroids! The spike-like clusters produce 4" wide, fragrant, butterfly-shaped white flowers with a creamy heart in late summer and into fall atop large sturdy upright stems with large tropical-looking rich green foliage. The Maximum Giant White Butterfly Ginger, likely a tetraploid or hybrid of Hedychium coronarium, has some of the largest stems, flowers, and (up to 2" diameter) rhizomes of any Hedychium we have grown to date! A naturally evergreen, rhizomatous slowly multiplying tropical, it acts like a die-back perennial in areas where freezes occur, reliably returning in zones 7B to 10. The Hedychium Gingers typically grow and flower best where they receive at least some direct sunlight for 3-4 hours during the day and generally have the best looking foliage where they receive shade during the heat of the day. A planting on the east facing side of a house, tree or other structure where they receive morning sun is often optimum. Provide an average moist to moist, average to well-drained, moderately fertile soil to keep this easy and reliable heirloom growing and flowering. Item# 13184

Deep violet trumpets are born freely from late spring or early summer until first frost to year round under warm tropical conditions atop sturdy stems. Mayan™ Purple Ruellia or Mexican Petunia is a relatively new seed and pollen sterile selection that can spend more energy on flowering instead of adding unwanted seedlings to the garden. In many regards it is similar to but outperforms Purple Showers in overall flower power and disease resistance. It is also a tetraploid so the funnel-shaped flowers are slightly larger than your typical Mexican Petunias. The Mexican Petunia is a naturally evergreen, rhizomatous or spreading, tropical perennial that is grown as a die-back perennial in zones 8-9. It can be grown as a low maintenance container specimen plant, in mixed container gardens, as well as in the garden and landscape. It can also be used as a tall groundcover in difficult sites. This is the male pollinator for Finch's Gold and Warren's Red Possumhaw Hollies and so it only produces the dainty white and green flowers that attract bees and small pollinators but these plants do not set fruit. The female Possumhaw Holly, Ilex decidua, is also readily pollinated by the American Holly, Ilex opaca, and most any other native male holly that flowers at the same time as the female Possumhaws and one male can effectively pollinate several females. They do not necessarily have to planted next to one another but should be in the vicinity where the bees can transfer pollen. This is a large growing, multi-stemmed, native deciduous shrub or small tree that has few if any pests or diseases. They are quite tolerant of growing conditions from average moisture, to wet, to periodically flooded sites in full sun to partly shaded sites. Item# 12749

The large, 7-8" wide, white to very pale pink flowers with large starkly contrasting scarlet eye that is surrounded by a narrow fuchsia halo that bleeds out into overlapping petals and are set against a dark backdrop of deep burgundy to deep green maple-like foliage. Mocha Moon Perennial or Hardy Hibiscus is a moderately vigorous growing, clump forming, herbaceous perennial building to about 4' high and 5-6' at maturity. Producing some of the largest flowers of any Perennial Hibiscus cultivars to date, the deep cherry pink to near red flowers of Moy Grande can measure over 12" across! Beginning as early as midsummer the branching stems are cloaked in 1/2" wide white daisies with a contrasting yellow eye eventually becoming reddish. The nectar and pollen laden flowers attract mainly smaller pollinators like bees providing an important late summer source for winter stores. The Ontario Aster, Symphiotrichum ontarionis, is a native perennial that colonizes via rhizomes and grows to about 30-40"H. It is found mainly in the central US from coastal Louisiana north to Canada commonly in semi-shaded sites along stream banks, bogs, and similar consistently moist locations. Deadhead once flowering is complete to minimize reseeding if desired but songbirds may enjoy the small seeds if they are left to ripen. This species is very similar to and is often confused with other white flowered late summer and fall flowering asters. Caterpillar host: Field Crescent, Pearl Crescent, Texan Crescent, Roadside Checkerspot, Hoffman's Checkerspot, and American Lady. In early spring to early summer, pairs of starry, four-petaled, tubular fuzzy white flowers are produced atop the deep green foliage and are followed by 1/4-3/8" diameter, glossy, bright red berries. The flowers are a standout against the deep green foliage and are likely to attract pollinating moths, like Sphinx and Hummingbird Moths, as well as smaller pollinators like bees and potentially butterflies. The fruit is consumed by a variety of wildlife like Quail, Dove, Wild Turkey, songbirds, and small mammals. The Partridgeberry or Twinberry, Mitchella repens, is a low growing, slow-ish growing and thus non-aggressive, shade tolerant, native, evergreen, woody groundcover native to all states east of the Mississippi River and those abutting it, as far west as East Texas, as far south as South-Central Florida, and as far north as Eastern Minnesota, Maine, and into Canada. We normally see it on average moist to moist, often sandy soils and in shaded to partly shade areas where it has minimal competition. The Partridgeberry is considered tolerant of periodically dry-ish shade once well established. Provide a shaded, average moist, acidic, average to well-drained soil for optimum vigor and flowering.
