Iris 'Louisiana Light Blue'

Light azure blue falls and standards are accented with darker veining and golden yellow bee guides. This Louisiana Iris was shared with us without a name but appears to be fairly vigorous whether as species or hybrid. If you recognize it please feel free to drop us a line. Grow it in average moist to wet soils, or they can be set in water gardens where the container is just below the water's surface. Item# 11808

Intense pure red, massive, dinner plate sized flowers are produced beginning in early summer and continuing until fall on this vigorous and free flowering perennial Hibiscus. Lord Baltimore is one of the first widely cultivated Hardy Hibiscus developed by Robert Darby in the 1950's and it is still popular to this day! Perennial Hibiscus produce the largest flowers of any perennial in the garden and the rich red of Lord Baltimore may even stop traffic, if accidentally. It is a vigorous upright to spreading perennial that easily fits into the back of the perennial border or as a specimen in moist sites. Item# 11017

Light blue starry flowers are produced in pyramidal clusters atop the new stems in early to mid spring and are visited by butterflies and hummingbirds. Louisiana Bluestar is a rare and unusual Amsonia with large rounded velvety foliage with a silvery reverse. Unlike most other Bluestars it is short rhizomatous but is not invasive or aggressive and develops into a small tight colony of plants and stems. Also known as Sandhill Bluestar it is more tolerant of drier sites than other Bluestars once established. Easy and enjoyable. Item# 9809

4-5" wide deep rose red flowers are produced in abundance with the show beginning in late spring or early summer and continuing until fall. Lufkin Red is a hardy perennial Hibiscus with a compact upright to spreading habit. This cultivar along with Lufkin White were developed for resistance to leaf spot diseases as well as flower color and their compact upright form by Cecile Pounders and the ARS division of the USDA at McNeill, MS and tested at the Poplarville, MS station for 5 years. A rare and endangered perennial Hibiscus that is native to just a few counties in east Texas. 3-5" wide, creamy white Hibiscus flowers with a burgundy eye are born from mid-summer to fall. Finely textured, and deeply cut, deep green foliage adds to the charm of this Hibiscus. Seems to do equally well under moist conditions as under average garden conditions. Item# 9400.

Clusters of purple frilly flowers are produced atop tall sturdy stems providing late summer and fall color as well as nectar and pollen for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. New York Ironweed, Vernonia noveboracensis, is a vigorous growing clump forming native perennial preferring moist to wet to average moist, fertile soils where it grows 5-8' high providing a tall safe platform for pollinators. This tough and easy perennial is well suited to moist naturalistic areas like meadows and prairies where it can mix with fall flowering sunflowers and asters. Tolerant of periodic drought once well-established and can be grown in average moist garden soils. Reseeds, deadhead to prevent unwanted seedlings. Over In Gloryland Siberian Iris

Iris x 'Over In Gloryland'

Another award winning Siberian Iris from the breeding work of Robert Hollingworth, Over In Gloryland Siberian Iris produces large flowers composed of deep royal purple standards and falls with a creamy white signal or 'blaze' in midseason atop sturdy 3-4' stems. The deep green narrow foliage provides grass-like motion in the garden even when the plants are not in flower. Provide Siberian Iris with an average moist to consistently moist moderately fertile soil and they can be planted near ponds, streams, and bog gardens as well as in average moist garden and landscape settings. They generally keep the best looking foliage where they have reliable access to moisture during the growing season. Pink Flowered Crimson-Eyed Rosemallow, Swamp Mallow

Hibiscus moscheutos (pink form)

6-8" wide pink to white flowers with a dark burgundy eye are produced throughout much of summer on this vigorous and hardy native perennial. We were kindly supplied with seeds of the pink form of our native Crimson-Eyed Rosemallow and are now finally able to share them with you. Prefers moist to wet soils but established plants can tolerate average moisture conditions fairly well. They can reach 7' by the end of summer but are more commonly seen in the 4-5' range.The foliage may be used as a butterfly larval host by Hairstreaks, Blues, Coppers, and others.
