Little Joe Compact Joe Pye Weed, Coastal Plain Joe Pye Weed, Joe Pye Thoroughwort

Eutrochium dubium 'Little Joe', Eupatorium dubium  PP16122

In mid to late summer large rounded flower clusters composed of hundreds of pinkish-purple to near rose-pink flowers are perched atop tall, dark purple, sturdy, upright stems with whorled, medium green, rugose foliage. Little Joe Coastal Joe Pye Weed, a selection of Eupatorium dubium but now classified Eutrochium dubium, is a clump forming, deciduous, herbaceous, native perennial growing to 4-5' high that is typically found growing near consistently moist areas along the East Coast but it does fine under average garden conditions as well. The flowers of Little Joe's nectar rich flowers attract butterflies and a variety of smaller pollinators including honeybees. Provide a full sun to partly shaded site in a moist to wet to average moist, fertile soil for optimum vigor, the sturdiest stems, and maximum flower production. Manipur Gold Ginger

Hedychium 'Manipur Gold'

Large spikes of headily fragrant, golden yellow butterfly-shaped flowers are accented with a darker orange blotch and red-orange anthers and filaments all atop sturdy red tinged 4-5' high stems and glossy dark green foliage. Manipur Gold Ginger is considered to potentially be an as yet unnamed species from Manipur province of northeastern India and was originally introduced by Tim Chapman of Gingerwood Nursery in southern Louisiana. The fragrant showy flowers should attract larger butterflies and maybe even the hummingbird-like pollinating Sphinx moths. Provide gingers with a rich, moist, and well-drained soil for optimum growth and flowering in an area that receives at least some direct sunlight or ample filtered sunlight. The flowers of the large type Hedychium gingers can also be used for fresh cut flowers once the flowers of the spike have begun opening as long as the fragrance is not overpowering indoors. Item# 13133

USDA Cold Hardiness Zones: 8B,9,10,11,(8A?,7B?)
Grows To: 4-6'H space at 1-2' apart
Outdoor Light: AM sun, Part shade, Part sun, *Mostly sunny, *Full sun

A White Butterfly Ginger on steroids! The spike-like clusters produce 4" wide, fragrant, butterfly-shaped white flowers with a creamy heart in late summer and into fall atop large sturdy upright stems with large tropical-looking rich green foliage. The Maximum Giant White Butterfly Ginger, likely a tetraploid or hybrid of Hedychium coronarium, has some of the largest stems, flowers, and (up to 2" diameter) rhizomes of any Hedychium we have grown to date! A naturally evergreen, rhizomatous slowly multiplying tropical, it acts like a die-back perennial in areas where freezes occur, reliably returning in zones 7B to 10. The Hedychium Gingers typically grow and flower best where they receive at least some direct sunlight for 3-4 hours during the day and generally have the best looking foliage where they receive shade during the heat of the day. A planting on the east facing side of a house, tree or other structure where they receive morning sun is often optimum. Provide an average moist to moist, average to well-drained, moderately fertile soil to keep this easy and reliable heirloom growing and flowering. Item# 13184

Midas Possumhaw Holly, Deciduous Holly

Ilex decidua 'Midas'

This is the male pollinator for Finch's Gold and Warren's Red Possumhaw Hollies and so it only produces the dainty white and green flowers that attract bees and small pollinators but these plants do not set fruit. The female Possumhaw Holly, Ilex decidua, is also readily pollinated by the American Holly, Ilex opaca, and most any other native male holly that flowers at the same time as the female Possumhaws and one male can effectively pollinate several females. They do not necessarily have to planted next to one another but should be in the vicinity where the bees can transfer pollen. This is a large growing, multi-stemmed, native deciduous shrub or small tree that has few if any pests or diseases. They are quite tolerant of growing conditions from average moisture, to wet, to periodically flooded sites in full sun to partly shaded sites. Item# 12749

Midnight Oil Eastern Beebalm

Monarda bradburiana 'Midnight Oil'  PPAF

The deep maroon foliage provides a contrasting foil for the ball-like clusters of 2" long, tubular light pink flowers whose nectar and pollen attract a variety of pollinators like hummingbirds, larger butterflies, and long-tongued bees. Midnight Oil Eastern Beebalm, a selection of Monarda bradburiana, is a many stemmed, clump-forming to slowly spreading, upright growing, native, herbaceous perennial selected for its unique, dark and mysterious foliage. This species is noted for its earlier flowering, excellent disease resistance, a naturally shorter 18-24" high habit, drought resistance as compared to other species of Monarda, and tolerance for thinner, poorer, and/or gravelly soils. Plants may lose foliage when drought stressed so average moisture is generally preferred under garden conditions. Everything about this Iris is BIG including the incredible show it puts on! The very large, to 5" wide, blue-violet flowers speckled with dark purple are perched on sturdy, 5' high, bud-laden stalks opening over a period of 4-6 weeks beginning in early spring. Ming Treasure Amplifora Iris, a Plant Delights Nursery introduction discovered by the Shanghai Botanic Gardens Dr. Xiao, is a vigorous evergreen clump forming perennial developing into a 3'H x 6'W mound of rich green, sword like foliage that can be up to 4" wide at its base. *Note: Most Irises prefer a full to mostly sunny site but Ming Treasure seems to do best where it receives at least some shade, particularly during the hottest portion of the day, with light, bright, or filtered shade being considered optimum. Molten Gold Dwarf Ginger

Hedychium 'Molten Gold'  PPAF

New for 2023! Loose spikes of golden orange flowers are produced sporadically throughout the growing season to potentially year round under warm tropical conditions atop short sturdy stems to about 2-3' high. Molten Gold Ginger, a hybrid Hedychium, is a naturally dwarf, rhizomatous herbaceous tropical to die-back perennial that can be enjoyed both as a container specimen or in the garden and landscape in zones 7-10. The fragrant flowers are likely to attract butterflies and potentially hummingbirds and it is reported to flower about three times per year in winter, spring, and fall under warm freeze and frost-free conditions. As a container specimen, it can be brought indoors in winter into an area with direct sunlight to high indirect sunlight. Hedychiums typically do best in a partly shaded to full sun site, in an average moist to moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Image courtesy of AG3, Inc., all rights reserved. Item# 13152

Clusters of deep red to red-orange flowers are each centered by contrasting orange to gold coronas but the most interesting thing about this cultivar is that is cloaked in beautifully variegated cream, pink, and green narrow foliage. Monarch Promise Butterflyweed, a selection of Asclepias curassavica, is an upright growing to vase-shaped, naturally evergreen, herbaceous tropical that flowers from spring to fall. It is sure to make for a colorful addition to containers as well as in the garden and landscape. In areas where freezes occur, like zone 8B, Butterfly Milkweed plants may freeze to the ground and generally return from the roots in spring but we cannot vouch for this specific cultivar's reliability as a die-back perennial. Nuttall's Wild Indigo

Baptisia nuttalliana

Soft primrose yellow pea-shaped flowers adorn the tips of the plants singly and in small clusters in early to midspring providing important nectar and pollen to Bumblebees. Nuttall's Wild Indigo, Baptisia nuttalliana, is a long-lived, taprooted, herbaceous perennial that develops into a neat, naturally rounded, shrub-like form cloaked in olive-tinged to blue-tinged green foliage and growing to about 24" high and maybe slightly wider. We generally see this species in drier sandier soils in the pineywoods along with B. bracteata although it is fairly adaptable as long as soils have average or better drainage. This species is limited to southern Arkansas, eastern Texas, and throughout Louisiana excluding the Mississippi River floodplains. The flowers are followed by small, few seeded pods that turn brown at maturity and provide fodder for seed eating songbirds and smaller mammals. Provide Nuttall's Wild Indigo with a full sun to part sun site in a fertile, average moist, acidic soil with decent drainage. Easy and reliable. Item# 13127
