The 10-14" high, long-lasting spikes are composed of showy deep pinkish purple bracts above while the lower smaller waxy green bracts protect the fertile yellow flowers. Flowering typically occurs in late spring to early summer and at about the same time as the new foliage emerges. The Queen Lily or Common Hidden Ginger, *Curcuma petiolata (tentatively), is a naturally clump forming, slowly spreading, root hardy, deciduous tropical with large, textured, almost canna-like, medium green foliage. This easy and reliable, low maitenance heirloom thrives in moderate sun to bright shade in a well-drained, average moist, fertile soil. The Queen Lily also makes for an easy container plant where not hardy. Naturally winter dormant but plants readily return in late spring. Item# 13177

Ragin' Cajun Indian Pinks, Pink Root, Worm Grass

Spigelia marilandica 'Ragin' Cajun'  

Loads of upward facing deep orange-red tubular buds open to show off thier contrasting starry yellow petals in spring atop a neat rounded mound of foliage. Ragin' Cajun Indian Pinks, a Plant Delights introduction that originated near St. Francisville, Louisiana, was selected for its neat and compact rounded habit, high bud count, orange-red flowers, and long flowering season. This is an easy and reliable long-lived clump forming, native perennial that is tolerant of full sun to light or bright shade. It goes fully dormant in winter dying back to near ground level then returning in early spring. Indian Pinks, Spigelia marilandica, will do best in a fertile, acidic, well-drained soil with average moisture. The flowers attract hummingbirds and other long tongued pollinators. Raydon's Favorite Aromatic Aster

Symphyotrichum oblongifolium 'Raydon's Favorite', Aster oblongifolius  

Masses of 1" wide yellow-eyed bluish purple daisies absolutely cover this plant for weeks in late summer and fall. Raydon's Favorite Aromatic Aster, a selection of Symphyotrichum oblongifolium and the big brother of the slightly more compact October Skies, is a medium-sized, herbaceous, densely mounding shrub-like perennial that matures to about 3' x 3' at the time of flowering. Excellent fall color for the garden as well as drought tolerance and pest and disease resistance make this an excellent addition to the perennial or wildflower border and landscape. The flowers attract a variety of pollinators but seems to be especially popular with bees. Caterpillar host: Field Crescent, Pearl Crescent, Texan Crescent, Roadside Checkerspot, Hoffman's Checkerspot, and American Lady. Ruffled Velvet Siberian Iris

Iris x 'Ruffled Velvet'  

Winner of the 1980 Morgan Award! Ruffled Velvet Siberian Iris produces large flowers composed of red-purple standards and darker red-purple falls with a creamy white signal or 'blaze' in mid to late season atop sturdy 2' stems. The deep green narrow foliage provides grass-like motion in the garden even when the plants are not in flower. Provide Siberian Iris with an average moist to consistently moist moderately fertile soil and they can be planted near ponds, streams, and bog gardens as well as in average moist garden and landscape settings. Medium to large, lightly fragrant, loose peony form to semi-double, medium silvery-pink flowers with a boss of yellow stamens are produced in early to midseason, November to February. The pollen laden and fragrant flowers are likely to attract bees and other pollinators on warmer days. Scentsation Camellia is a large type Japonica with a moderate to vigorous, densely branching, upright to rounded habit. Shining Star™ Variegated Little Bluestem Grass

Possibly the most exciting native grass introduction on the market to date! In spring the narrow blades emerge heavily variegated with green and cream and are accented by pink tones, especially when weather is cooler. By summer it has grown into a 12-18" by 12-18" mass of arching boldly variegated white and green foliage. In late summer the flowering stalks begin to elongate showing off their variegated form and as summer temperatures begin to cool the white portions of the foliage and flowering stems deepens into pink and rose tones and finally into burgundy. Shiryukyo Pseudata Iris

Iris x 'Shiryukyo'  

The extra large, to 6 1/2" wide, flowers are composed reddish purple falls with darker purple veining and a starkly contrasting bright yellow signal all topped by the medium red-purple standards. Shiryukyo Pseudata Iris is an exceptionally vigorous free flowering producing numerous flowers on sturdy 48-54"H stems in mid to late season. Shiryukyo translates to Purple Dragon's Valley.  The Pseudata Iris is hybrid of the Japanese Iris, Iris ensata, and the Yellow Flag Iris, Iris pseudocorus, combining the vigor, adaptability, and yellow pigmentation of the Yellow Flag with the elegance and refinement of the Japanese Irises. These Irises will do best in a moist to average moist, fertile soil rich in organic matter and will benefit from an organic mulch. A mainstay of southern and western Texas and New Mexico butterfly gardens! Bright yellow daisies are produced from late spring into fall and are held against a foil of dark green, deeply lobed, fragrant, narrow foliage with the heaviest flowering occurring in fall. The flowers are highly attractive to a variety of butterflies, bees, and other garden beneficials. Narrow, upright to arching, 24-30" high spikes of rich purple flowers are produced in mid to late summer and into fall attracting a host of pollinators. Smallhead Blazing Star, Liatris microcephela, is a cormous, clump-forming, herbaceous perennial with narrow, dark green, fine-textured foliage and produce a multitude of flower spikes per plant at maturity. This tough little deer and drought resistant native is typically found in sandy to clayey, well-drained soils in the southeastern US. Like all of our Liatris species, it is a key pollinator plant attracting bees, butterflies, flower flies, and likely occasional low-flying hummingbirds. Smallhead Blazing Star makes for a long-lasting cut flower and, unlike most Liatris, the flowers begin opening from the top downward. The large to very large, pure white anemone form flowers, sometimes with a few yellow stamens peaking out from between the central boss of petaloids and are produced in early to midseason or Nov-February. Snow Chan Camellia, a sport of Shiro Chan which is itself a sport of Elegans, and each of these varieties tend to have a slower rate of growth and a more open habit with large deep green foliage lacily edged with large prominent teeth. An RHS Award of Garden Merit winner! The small to medium-sized, double, ruby red flowers with a lavender tinge, showing varying amounts of yellow stamens among the central petaloids, are produced early in the season, October to December. Sparkling Burgundy Sasanqua Camellia is a C. hiemalis hybrid with Shi-Shi Gashira lineage with a vigorous yet compact well-branched habit and cloaked in medium-textured, dark green, glossy foliage growing about as high as wide. Use this medium-sized evergreen shrub as a fall flowering accent, hedge, or even a container plant in formal or informal settings. This was one of the earliest patented Camellias assigned USPP1539. The Sasanqua Camellias are much more tolerant of growing conditions than standard Japonica Camellias and can tolerate less than perfect soils and full sun to light shade conditions. A rare striped Sasanqua! This is a heavily flowering plant that produces loads of medium-sized, single to semi-double, white flowers that are randomly striped and often heavily edged with starkly contrasting deep rose red and are centered by a boss of nicely contrasting yellow stamens. Flowering occurs in early to midseason, October to January, attracting bees with ample pollen. Stars 'N Stripes Sasanqua Camellia has a moderate rate of growth with an upright to spreading, densely branching habit and matures into a medium-sized, evergreen shrub. The dark green, medium-textured, glossy foliage acts as a wonderful foil to its fall flowers and is sure to be a conversation piece. Sure to make a neat choice for a hedge, specimen, or accent in the garden and landscape as well as for container culture. The Sasanqua Camellias are much more tolerant of growing conditions than standard Japonica Camellias and can tolerate less than perfect soils and full sun to light shade conditions. Swans In Flight Siberian Iris

Iris x 'Swans In Flight'  

This multi-award winning Siberian Iris produces extra large, up to 5" wide, bright white flowers which are accented with yellow signals. Swans In Flight flowers in very late in the season atop sturdy 30-36"H stems. The deep green narrow foliage provides grass-like motion in the garden even when the plants are not in flower. Provide Siberian Iris with an average moist to consistently moist moderately fertile soil and they can be planted near ponds, streams, and bog gardens as well as in average moist garden and landscape settings. They generally keep the best looking foliage where they have reliable access to moisture during the growing season. The 10-14" high, long-lasting spikes are composed of showy deep pinkish purple bracts above while the lower smaller waxy green bracts protect the fertile yellow flowers. Flowering typically occurs in late spring to early summer and at about the same time as the new foliage emerges. The Queen Lily or Common Hidden Ginger, *Curcuma petiolata (tentatively), is a naturally clump forming, slowly spreading, root hardy, deciduous tropical with large, textured, almost canna-like, medium green foliage. This easy and reliable, low maitenance heirloom thrives in moderate sun to bright shade in a well-drained, average moist, fertile soil. The Queen Lily also makes for an easy container plant where not hardy. Naturally winter dormant but plants readily return in late spring. Item# 13177
