The white, upward facing flowers each have a nice drop of starkly contrasting golden orange sitting at the base of each of the large outer petals. Orange Drop African Iris, a hybrid between the African Iris and Butterfly Iris, is a slowly multiplying and clump forming, naturally evergreen, tropical member of the Iris family with very dark green, upright to slightly arching, narrow foliage growing to about 24-30" high. The African Irises can typically withstand light freezes and will still remain evergreen, while they can reportedly survive temperatures into the lower 20oFs they may be more apt to grow and thus flower best when protected from temperatures below about 25oF, at which point the foliage tends to burn. Orange Drop African Iris can be enjoyed as a very low maintenance container plant as well as in the garden and landscape where reliably hardy. Item# 10770

Orange Sherbert Firecracker Flower, Crossandra

Crossandra infundibuliformis 'Orange Sherbert'

Clusters of widely flaring soft orange flowers are borne from spring to fall to year-round under warm tropical conditions and are held above and among the rich deep green foliage on an upright to spreading herbaceous tropical. Crossandras are excellent for mixed containers and in the garden for bright color in shaded areas where they often flower until frost. If kept from freezing temperatures they can easily reach 3-4' high or can be pruned to keep them in bounds. They can tolerate full sun but in the hot summer climates they have a tendency to curl their leaves on the hottest days and so midday and or afternoon shade may be optimum.
