Parsley-Leaf Ming Aralia

Polyscias fruticosa 'Elegans'

Finely cut medium-textured parsley-like foliage adorns the short sturdy stems of this easy and adaptable naturally dwarf houseplant or bonsai specimen. The Parsley-Leaf Ming Aralia can reach 3-4' high but 1-2' high is more typical and it is easily kept smaller and more compact with periodic pruning. This is a relatively slow growing cultivar of the larger growing Ming Aralia and so is not likely to outgrow your space and is tolerant of a wide range of growing conditions provided you do not keep it too wet. Item# 9301

An Almost Eden exclusive introduction! Clusters of 1" wide flowers whose rounded opposing bracts, that surround the orange and yellow true flowers, open a blush peachy pink and then lighten to creamy white as they age. Peach Blush Crown of Thorns, our own seedling selection of Euphorbia milii, is a vigorous cultivar with a naturally upright, well-branched habit eventually becoming vase shaped at maturity. It flowers heaviest from mid to late summer until about mid to late spring. The Crown of Thorns all make easy and forgiving indoor, porch, and patio specimen plants that are tolerant of the hottest full sun conditions as well as in a sunny window. Provide a well-draining cactus-like soil and never keep soggy wet. Established plants can flower continuously throughout the year when grown under frost and freeze free conditions and preferably when kept above 50oF. Peaches & Cream Angel's Trumpet

Brugmansia versicolor 'Peaches & Cream'

Beautiful white leaves with green centers make this an outstanding specimen, even when not producing the large flowers that open white and fade to a peachy pink. Peaches & Cream Angel's Trumpet makes an easy container plant and is probably best grown this way except in frost free or near frost free climates. Provide midday and afternoon shade in hot summer regions. Item# 545.

Persian Carpet Flower

Ceropegia sordida, Edithcolea grandis

The fleshy deep green to reddish green 1/2" diameter, 4-5 angled, branched stems are adorned with small spikey thorns that produces 3-5" wide pale yellow to near white starry flowers that are overlaid with intricate burgundy and dark burgundy variegation reminiscent of a Persian carpet. It can flower any time of year and multiple times per year once fully mature and under good conditions. Like Stapeliads, this plant is pollinated by flies and has a rotten carrion like odor to attract them but you may have to put your nose in the flower to notice it as it does not seem to permeate the air. The Persian Carpet Flower, Edithcolea grandis newly reclassified as Ceropegia sordida, is an evergreen herbaceous succulent from tropical Africa that can build to 4-8"H x 12"W and is typically found growing in partially shaded to occassionally full sun conditions in dry desert-like regions. Its main requirements are soils with excellent drainage and warm temperatures, preferably not below about 60oF. The Persian Carpet Flower should make an easy summer porch or patio plant or even as a hanging basket where it receives at least some direct sunlight during the day to promote flowering. It can tolerate slightly more moisture when in active growth but should still be allowed to become moderately dry between waterings. Reduce watering in winter, especially if grown under cool conditions. These are well-established young plants that are already branching. Item# 12457

Wave after wave of 12" long trumpets open a pale cream color and quickly darken to pink and finally a dark coral pink. The long lasting flowers are wonderfully fragrant with the rich perfume still noticeable into the morning especially on cool cloudy days. Peruvian Princess Angels Trumpet begins flowering even at 5' high making it highly desirable for container culture. Angel's Trumpets are fast growing tropical shrubs that act-like die-back perennials in the northern parts of their range but readily return from the roots in spring. Peter's Wonder Coleus, Painted Nettle

Coleus scuttelarioides 'Peters Wonder', Plectranthus scuttelarioides, Solenostemon scuttelarioides, C. blumei

The large, medium-textured, frilly edged, tropical foliage metamorphoses through shades of magenta and purple, pastel yellows, and pastel greens with a contrasting purplish-red reverse and stems. New growth emerges purple to magenta and in sunnier sites the colors tend to be brighter but may lean more toward pastel greens and yellows in shade. Peter's Wonder Coleus is a moderately vigorous upright to rounded growing, heat and shade tolerant cultivar that has long been popular for its unique coloration and texture. In hot summer climates consider providing part shade or shade during the heat of the day. Peter's Wonder mixes well with Impatiens in containers as a thriller or grow it as a specimen container plant. Add it to the garden and landscape for a summer-long spot of color. Provide a well-drained, moist to average moist, fertile soil for optimum vigor. Images courtesy of Ball Horticulture, Inc., all rights reserved. Item# 12535

Pineapple Guava, Feijoa, Guavasteen

Acca sellowiana, Feijoa sellowiana

1" long recurving light lavender petals are topped by a large boss of starkly contrasting deep red to purplish red filaments that are tipped by contrasting yellow stamens and are produced in about midspring. Pollinated flowers may be followed by greenish oblong tropical flavored guava-like fruit. Pineapple Guava, Acca sellowiana or Feijoa sellowiana, is a medium to large evergreen shrub, sometimes trained into a small tree, that is cloaked in deep grayish green to olive gray green foliage that has a silvery reverse. The plants have a naturally rounded habit at maturity and typically do not require pruning and the plants have few disease or pest problems so long as they are grown in a well-drained soil. Wait for ripened 2-3" long fruits fall to the ground and allow them to continue to ripen in a cool dry area. Once they soften and the fragrance intensifies you know they are ready for eating. They have minty-ish pineapple-like flavor and fragrance. For the best fruit production plant at least two different varieties or seedlings. Ours are seed grown plants. The flowers themselves are edible also and would likely be best used in a salad. Item# 1207

Adorning purplish-red spikes and emerging from similarly colored calyxes, the mulberry pink tubular flowers are accented by contrasting white lower lips and a fuzzy bright fuchsia hood. Flowering occurs from late spring or early summer to fall. Pink Mulberry Salvia, an uncommon hybrid between S. greggii 'Alba' x S. involucrata, is a shrub-like, herbaceous tender perennial sage that lands somewhere between its parents in looks and growth habit reaching about 3-4' high and 2-3' wide by the end of the summer. Hummingbirds will likely be unable to resist its charming flowers and sweet nectar.
