Rocky Hunt Louisiana Iris

Grown mainly for its large aromatic heart-shaped tropical foliage that produce a strong root beer-like fragrance when crushed along with contrasting narrow creamy white arching 'flowers' in the form of a 'spadix'. The Rootbeer Tree, Piper auritum, is a vigorous, naturally evergreen, shrub-like herbaceous tropical that can be grown as a die-back perennial into zone 8. In the garden and landscape it can spread aggressively and invasively, like some mints, via fleshy white underground rhizomes and can be difficult to eradicate once well established. It is generally easiest to contain when grown as a container plant that is not in contact with soil below it. The Rootbeer Tree is widely used as an herb in Meso-American cultures like Oaxacan. It can be used fresh or dried to flavor soups, eggs, drinks and is an essential ingredient in Mole Verde. Item# 789

Clusters of bright golden yellow upward facing daisies are produced atop sturdy stems emerging from the rosettes of rounded low growing deep green foliage in early(8B) to late spring or early summer(3) depending on your cold hardiness zone. Roundleaf Golden Groundsel, Packera obovata, is very similar to the cutleaf Golden Groundsel, Packera aurea, but is more tolerant of full sun as well as light shade and drier growing conditions. This stoloniferous native perennial develops into an evergreen to semi-evergreen mat of low rich green foliage and its flowers attract many early season pollinators, especially bees. Use Roundleaf Golden Groundsel as a groundcover in informal and naturalistic garden settings as well as in roadside plantings, meadows, and prairies. It will act like a die-back perennial freezing back to the crown for winter and re-emerging in spring that is hardy into zone 7. Ruffled Velvet Siberian Iris

Winner of the 1980 Morgan Award! Ruffled Velvet Siberian Iris produces large flowers composed of red-purple standards and darker red-purple falls with a creamy white signal or 'blaze' in mid to late season atop sturdy 2' stems. The deep green narrow foliage provides grass-like motion in the garden even when the plants are not in flower. Provide Siberian Iris with an average moist to consistently moist moderately fertile soil and they can be planted near ponds, streams, and bog gardens as well as in average moist garden and landscape settings.
