The single 2" flowers open a creamy yellow, change to orange, then deep pink, and finally to crimson, with all of these blooms open at the same time it gives the appearance of a multitude of butterflies are covering the bush. Mutabilis Rose is a conversation starting repeat flowering heirloom garden rose with good disease resistance and average vigor. Orange Aphelandra

Aphelandra leonardii x A. sinclairiana  

Candelabra-like spikes of orange bracts that subtend rich orangey coral colored 2" tubular flowers that are designed for hummingbird pollination are produced throughout much of the year on this tropical beauty. An evergreen shrub in its native habitat it can easily be enjoyed as a container plant for a lightly shaded patio. This is very similar to Aphelandra sinclairiana but a few minor differences set it apart making us think that it may be A. leonardii. The Orange Cape Honeysuckle is an easy heat and sun loving tropical that can be grown as a medium to large arching shrub or hedge, vine or espalier, and can be trained into tree standards. Rich reddish-orange flowers emerge from dark spikes that sit atop sturdy upright to arching stems with blue tinted foliage and are produced over a long period in summer on well-established plantings. The Mark Collins form of the Scarlet Ginger is considered to be the same as the cultivar 'Palani' and was collected by the late Ginger guru in Bhutan or Nepal. Spikes of soft golden-orange upward facing funnel-shaped flowers are produced non-stop from mid to late spring to fall atop the medium green foliage attracting hummingbirds, occasional butterflies, and long-tongued bees. Pumpkin Pie Hummingbird Bush, a selection of Anisacanthus quadrifidus var. wrightii and potentially the same as the cultivar 'Bennie's Gold', is a small decidous native shrub from South Texas with excellent flower power. This easy and reliable heirloom has an upright to spreading busny habit rarely exceeding 3-4' in height (3'x3' is fairly typical in our zone 8B gardens) and it revels in the heat and sun of summer and is undaunted by the high humidity and high rainfall of the southeastern US.
