The large, palmate, tropical-looking, glossy deep green foliage of this Variegated Fatsia is splashed with nicely contrasting bright creamy white making this a standout in shaded gardens. Large loose clusters to 18" or more across are composed of 1" to 1-1/2" diameter, ball-shaped white flowers that are produced in fall to winter attracting an amazing number of mainly smaller pollinators and are followed by 1/4" diameter green berries that ripen to black. Fatsia or Japanese Aralia makes an excellent choice for shaded locations and develops into a medium to large, often multi-stemmed evergreen shrub with an initially slow rate of growth that increase to moderate once plants are well-established. The deep bluish-green, sword-shaped foliage is broadly edged in starkly contrasting white and creamy white creating a year round splash of color. The Variegated Yucca is an heirloom selection of the native Yucca filamentosa, or Adam's Needle, and develops into an architecturally pleasing, low rounded mass of evergreen foliage on a deer, heat, and drought resistant plant eventually reaching about 2-3'H x 3'W. It may eventually produce small offsets colonizing the area under good conditions. This tough as nails plant makes a colorful, low-maintenance, reliable, evergreen addition to the garden and landscape and can also be used to good effect as low-maintenance and forgiving container specimens. Adam's Needle is found throughout much of the eastern and central US and as far west as Kansas and is common component in the Longleaf Pine understory. Provide a full sun to part sun site in average to well-drained soils. Item# 12628

Veilchenblau Climbing Rose

Rosa x 'Veilchenblau'

Originally touted as the "Blue Rose", this heirloom climbing or rambling rose produces large clusters of 1-1/2" wide, fragrant, deep purple flowers, often with white accents and nicely contrasting yellow stamens, with the flower color deepeing into blue-purple tones as they age. Flowering occurs in mid to late spring to early summer, with flowering occurring earlier in warmer zones. Vielchenblau Climbing Rose is a vigorous, nearly thornless, rambling multi-flora hybrid growing to about 10-12' high making it a good choice as a pillar rose or it can be trained along a fence or other sturdy support. Due to its reliable performance and moderate disease resistance it has been selected as an RHS Award of Garden Merit winner. While Vielchenblau is tolerant of *partial shade, a full sun location with good air circulation and a fertile, average moist soil with good drainage are preferred for optimum growth, disease resistance, and flowering. Flowering is in midspring attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Vibrant Evergreen Azalea, a Harris hybrid, is a rare dwarf with a dense and compact habit that lends itself to bonsai culture but is sure to be a low-maintenance conversation piece in the garden and landscape.  Azaleas do best in average moist, acidic soils that are rich in organic matter but that has good to excellent drainage and should be top dressed with an organic mulch such as pine straw and pine bark. Clusters of dainty white and green spring flowers are followed by dense clusters of glossy bright red berries that often last into spring (if the birds don't get them all!). The nectar and pollen laden flowers attract bees and smaller pollinators and even provide a caffiene kick. Warren's Red Possumhaw Holly, a selection of Ilex decidua, is a large growing, multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub but could potentially be shaped into a small tree form. It has few if any pests or diseases and is quite tolerant of growing conditions from average moist to moderately wet and periodically flooded sites. Provide a full to mostly sunny site for optimum growth, vigor, and fruit set. Almost any male native holly that flowers at the same time will pollinate the female Warren's Red Possumhaw Holly including the American Holly, Ilex opaca, and we also now offer the male Midas Possumhaw Holly as well. Small, greenish-white flowers are produced in spring just before or as the new foliage emerges and are an important pollen and nectar resource for native bees as well as for honey production. Flowers on female trees are followed by 1 to 1-1/2" long, edible fruits that ripen to lilac or dark purple and drop in the fall. The Water Tupelo, Nyssa aquatica, is a large, native, deciduous tree with a large conical swollen trunk similar to Bald Cypress with gray bark. White Chinese Abelia

Abelia chinensis

Large long-lasting clusters of fragrant, trumpet-shaped, nectar rich, white flowers are produced from mid to late spring or early summer until fall attracting a bevy of butterflies, bees, hummingbird moths, and hummingbirds. This white fruited selection of the American Beautyberry adorns itself in dense clusters of 1/8" wide, creamy white, berries that encircle the stems. The fruit begins to ripen and color up in summer but they are most noticeable on the bare winter stems. Apparently the berries sweeten as winter sets in and songbirds find them irresistible. This is a fast growing, native, deciduous shrub that is tolerant of sun to semi-shade but generally flowers and fruits best in full or mostly sunny conditions. Because it flowers on new growth, if the American Beautyberry gets too large it will benefit from periodic hard pruning and still produce fruit the same year if pruning is done before new growth begins in spring. Item# 12224
