Clusters of maroon to purple, lightly fragrant flowers are produced in early spring among the newly emerging, beautifully and heavily variegated creamy yellow, bronze, and green new growth that matures to cream, white, and green. The Variegated Five-Leaf Akebia is an adaptable and vigorous, twining, semi-evergreen to deciduous vine with few pest or disease issues. Even though it is variegated it readily tolerates full sun conditions. Provide an average moist, well-drained, fertile soil and is tolerant of periodic drought once fully established. If cross-pollinated by another Akebia with different genetics, such as a seedling or different cultivar of Akebia quinata, it may produce 3-4" long purplish fruit. Hand pollination may be required to ensure good fruit set. The foliage alone is beautiful enough to make this plant worthy of a spot in the garden on a sturdy fence, trellis, or arbor. Item# 12049

Possibly one of the most strikingly variegated succulents you will find! The new growth is mostly white to cream with a narrow green line along the midvein and as the densely stacked opposite leaves mature the cream variegation slowly changes to light green. Where the plants receive direct sunlight the foliage becomes tinged with red and pink. The Variegated String of Buttons, Crassula perforata f. variegata, has a naturally dense upright to sprawling habit slowly building to 8-16" high. It is a naturally evergreen miniature shrub-like member of the Jade family from South Africa and it is reported to be hardy into zone 9. Vibrant Evergreen Azalea

Rhododendron x 'Vibrant'

The large 3-4" wide, funnel shaped, white flowers are neatly edged in a broad band of contrasting rich reddish-pink and seem to nearly glow against the foil of dark green, medium textured foliage. Flowering is in midspring attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Vibrant Evergreen Azalea, a Harris hybrid, is a rare dwarf with a dense and compact habit that lends itself to bonsai culture but is sure to be a low-maintenance conversation piece in the garden and landscape.  Azaleas do best in average moist, acidic soils that are rich in organic matter but have good to excellent drainage and should be top dressed with an organic mulch such as pine straw and pine bark. We recommend using a slow-release, non-burning fertilizer that is labeled for acidic loving plants. Item# 12576

Loose hyacinth-like spikes of dainty green flowers with recurving petals and contrasting dark purple filaments and yellow stamens are held above the narrow silvery foliage with dark green spots and reddish-purple reverses in spring after a dry winter dormancy. This is an easy to grow dwarf scilla or squill, tentatively Ledebouria socialis 'Violacea' as there are many similar horticultural forms within this species, is a dwarf growing, evergreen herbaceous tropical succulent that grows from a thickened above ground bulb and readily multiplies happily filling its container. This should make an easy windowsill, porch, or patio plant where it receives bright indirect sunlight or a small amount of cool early morning or filtered sunlight. Provide this easy to grow plant with a well-drained, cactus-like soil and allow the soil to become moderately dry between waterings. If it gets too dry it will wilt to let you know but it readily recovers once moisture is applied. During active growth, average moisture is preferred and it can be allowed to remain a good deal dryer when dormant. The small nectar rich flowers of Virginia Mountain Mint, Pycnanthemum virginianum, attract a wide variety of pollinators, and are especially important to native bees. This is a rhizomatous native perennial that will readily spread especially in moist soils.
