The arrowhead shaped mainly solid colored foliage lights up with dark copper, red, orange, yellow, pink, and some green shades and can deepen to near purple in late summer, fall, and winter. Inferno Copper Plant has a naturally rounded habit on a compact well-branched plant growing to about 3' high and 3' wide making it a choice tropical for a medium-sized, heat and sunloving, low-maintenance container specimen or add it to the garden and landscape as an annual for a spring to frost show. In full to mostly sunny sites the foliage tends to be darkest and richest in copper, red, and orange shade and in shadier sites it may lean more toward the pastel lighter colors including green. Japanese Stewartia, Korean Stewartia, Deciduous Camellia

Stewartia pseudocamellia, S. koreana

The 2-1/2" wide flowers are composed of a single row of overlapping pure white petals that surround a boss of contrasting golden yellow stamens and are produced in early summer. The petals fall to create a blanket of white on the ground similar to what a Sasanqua Camellia does . A Camellia cousin, the Japanese Stewartia, Stewartia pseudocamellia, is a highly desirable small to medium-sized, single to occassionally multi-trunked, deciduous tree with excellent fall color in red and purple tones and showy exfoliating copper and silver colored bark providing winter interest. It will perform best in a consistently average moist, well-drained, loamy, acidic soil rich in organic matter. In areas with hot summer climates, zones 7-8, provide the Japanese Stewartia with afternoon shade or filtered shade, in more northerly latitudes, zones 5-6, it is tolerant of full sun conditions. Kentish Hero Pocketbook Plant, Slipper Flower, Bush Slipperwort

Calceolaria integrifolia 'Kentish Hero'

Large clusters of intense fiery orange, red, and yellow pocketbook-shaped flowers are produced throughout the growing season and are held on sturdy stems well above the quilted, slightly sticky, deep green bronze-tinged foliage. Kentish Hero Pocketbook Plant, a Calceolaria integrifolia selection, is a vigorous upright to rounded, semi-shrub like tropical to tender perennial from Chile growing to about 24-30" high and 24-36" wide. The uniquely shaped flowers are pollinated by specialized oil-collecting bees in their native habitats and may spark interest and intrique especially with young budding horticulturists. This is an easy to grow dwarf scilla or squill, tentatively Ledebouria socialis 'Laxifolia' as there are many similar horticultural forms within this species, is a dwarf growing, evergreen herbaceous tropical succulent that grows from a thickened above ground bulb and readily multiplies happily filling its container. This should make an easy windowsill, porch, or patio plant where it receives bright indirect sunlight or a small amount of cool early morning or filtered sunlight. This long-loved rose from 1834 bears many names attesting to its prowess as a garden and landscape rose and it is one of the few roses that has proven resistant to chili thrips in Florida. It is very similar to the ever popular Craimoisi Superieur with which it is often confused but Louis Philippe generally has a more compact habit growing to 3-4' high and wide on average and the flowers seem to be more pink in the inner petals. This is a rhizomatous slowly spreading, sun to part shade tolerant perennial that can be utilized for summer to fall color in the garden and landscape as well as for showy, low-maintenance container specimens. Alstroemerias prefer an average moist, fertile, well-drained soil and tend to be sturdiest in sun to part shade locations. Where summers are hot consider providing shade or filtered shade during the hottest part of the day. These also serve as long-lasting and popular fresh cut flowers.
