The arrowhead shaped mainly solid colored foliage lights up with dark copper, red, orange, yellow, pink, and some green shades and can deepen to near purple in late summer, fall, and winter. Inferno Copper Plant has a naturally rounded habit on a compact well-branched plant growing to about 3' high and 3' wide making it a choice tropical for a medium-sized, heat and sunloving, low-maintenance container specimen or add it to the garden and landscape as an annual for a spring to frost show. In full to mostly sunny sites the foliage tends to be darkest and richest in copper, red, and orange shade and in shadier sites it may lean more toward the pastel lighter colors including green. Large clusters of intense fiery orange, red, and yellow pocketbook-shaped flowers are produced throughout the growing season and are held on sturdy stems well above the quilted, slightly sticky, deep green bronze-tinged foliage. Kentish Hero Pocketbook Plant, a Calceolaria integrifolia selection, is a vigorous upright to rounded, semi-shrub like tropical to tender perennial from Chile growing to about 24-30" high and 24-36" wide. The uniquely shaped flowers are pollinated by specialized oil-collecting bees in their native habitats and may spark interest and intrique especially with young budding horticulturists. You can grow this exotic beauty in containers as well as in the garden and landscape. Provide the Pocketbook Plant with full sun to part shade in a rich, well-drained soil with average moisture. Periodic removal of spent flower clusters will help to encourage additional flowers and will help to keep the plants looking neat and clean. The frilly ferny deep plum colored foliage is daintily edged in contrasting lime green to yellow on a mounding medium-sized plant. Kiwi Fern Coleus has long been a favorite not only for its lacy fine-textured foliage but also for its smaller habit that lends it to use as a filler or spiller in combinations or utilize this sun and shade tolerant annual in the garden and landscape where it will provide a summer long display. The dark foliage colors tend to deepen in sun and the green tones tend to become more yellow, the image provided is of plants grown in bright shade. This should make an easy windowsill, porch, or patio plant where it receives bright indirect sunlight or a small amount of cool early morning or filtered sunlight. Up to 1" wide dense double wonderfully fragrant white flowers are produced in abundance throughout the growing season to year round under warm tropical conditions. The Little Duke Sambac Jasmine is an old cultivar with a compact upright to scandent (a.k.a. vine-like) habit and slightly smaller flowers that is a more vigorous prolifically flowering plant than the Grand Duke of Tuscany Jasmine. The dark green elongated to rounded foliage is reminiscent of Grand Duke Supreme Jasmine but Little Duke Jasmine has denser flowers and is expected to be more compact making it a good choice for container culture or bonsai. The 2-3" wide cupped fragrant roses have red outer petals with deep rose inner petals and are produced throughout the growing season on this disease resistant small shrub. This long-loved rose from 1834 bears many names attesting to its prowess as a garden and landscape rose and it is one of the few roses that has proven resistant to chili thrips in Florida. It is very similar to the ever popular Craimoisi Superieur with which it is often confused but Louis Philippe generally has a more compact habit growing to 3-4' high and wide on average and the flowers seem to be more pink in the inner petals. Like all China Roses provide this easy to grow plant with a full to mostly sunny site in an average moist, fertile soil for optimum vigor and flowering though it is fairly adaptable. Dark green elongated foliage with wavy edges is heavily variegated with contrasting lighter patches along the midvein reaching nearly to the edge of the leaf. Louisa's Hardy Calathea or Prayer Plant, Goeppertia louisae previously Calathea louisae, is a suprisingly hardy and tough low growing tropical groundcover that thrives in moist shaded conditions in the garden as well as in containers. Exceptionally fragrant with a strong spearmint aroma! Malcolm's Whiteleaf Mountainmint, a.k.a. Malcolm's Mint, was selected and introduced by its namesake Dr. Malcolm Vidrine for its strong minty fragrance in lieu of the typical, sometimes camphor-like, fragrance more common to this species. This is a clump forming native perennial with an upright to rounded growth habit reaching about 3' high by flowering. The dainty flowers are pollinated by a variety of smaller pollinators but are especially relished by bees. Easy to grow and deer and pest resistant. Whiteleaf Mountainmint is somewhat drought resistant once well-established.
