Pink Quill Plant, Tillandsia

Wallisia cyanea, Tillandsia cyanea

Deep purplish-blue 3-petaled flowers emerge in succession from long-lasting flattened purplish-pink bracts in both spring and fall atop the rosette of narrow deep green arching foliage. The Pink Quill Plant, Tillandsia cyanea or now Wallisia cyanea, is one of the easiest to grow and most popular bromeliads which can be enjoyed as a small container plant, hanging basket, or it can be attached to wood as an epiphyte. This dainty bromeliad was awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its ease of culture and reliability. The Pink Quill Plant will multiply creating pups from the base of the mother plant after flowering which can be left to create full rootbound plants that flower longer. Provide an average moist but well-drained soil and allow the soil to become slightly dry between waterings. Item# 11924

Large clusters of pure white intensely fragrant flowers are produced from spring to fall at the ends of the new growth and are held against the deep green foliage. Considered by many to be a selection of Poet's Jasmine, Grandiflorum sports larger flower clusters than the species and flowers may be most intensely fragrant in the evening and at night and makes an excellent choice for the Moon Moth garden or plant it near a doorway where a passersby can experience its heady fragrance. Where winters are mild, zones 9-10, it may remain mostly evergreen and can be trained into a shrub form as well as grown as a vine. An easy groundcovering perennial, Selfheal produces dense spikes of contrasting coppery tinged green bracts from which row after row of white tubular flowers with a purple 'hood' emerge. This member of the mint family is easy to establish and requires little care once established in the garden.
