Find plants that are suitable for planting in coastal gardens and landscapes. These are salt resistant plants and some are more tolerant that others to both salt spray as well as soil borne salts.

All Summer Beauty is right! The large rounded clusters of pink, blue, or even purple flowers are born in spring as well as all summer as this Hydrangea produces flowers on new wood as well as old. Ficus carica 'Alma'

Alma, bred by the Texas ARS, produces a large crop medium to large pear shaped to rounded green fruit that ripens to yellow or bronze. The amber to pink flesh of Alma is considered to be excellent with a rich and very sweet flavor. The small eye is filled with honeydew and is highly resistant to spoiling making this a good choice for the South and Southeastern US. Alma bears fruit at a young age. Excellent fresh, dried, or preserved. The highly productive trees are smaller than average with a compact habit and with good vigor. Late season ripening. Item # 9498.

Amelia Rose Azalea

Rhododendron indica 'Amelia Rose'

Beautiful, rich purplish pink, fully double, rose-like 2" flowers are produced in early to midspring. Amelia Rose Evergreen Azalea is a Dr. Eugene Aromi hybrid with a vigorous upright to rounded habit and a long season of flowering. It will eventually build into a 6' x 6' medium-sized shrub. Azaleas do best in average moist, acidic soils that are rich in organic matter but have good to excellent drainage and should be top dressed with an organic mulch such as pine straw and pine bark. The large rounded, thick, tough, blue-green to deep olive green, evergreen foliage is long-lived and as the name suggests you can sign your name on a young leaf and watch it grow as the leaf expands. The Autograph Tree, Clusia rosea, is an upright growing tropical to subtropical tree from the Caribbean and southern Florida that produces white to pink, 2-3 inch wide, waxy flowers that open at night and may last into morning on overcast days and are followed by 2-3" diameter green fruits that eventually fall and split open to reveal bright red-orange seeds that attract birds. Although this is a tropical tree it can easily be maintained as container shrub with pruning. Provide full sun to part sun in a well-drained, average moist soil. Its night opening flowering suggest moth pollination making this a good addition to the moon moth garden. Drought resistant and a forgiving and easy container specimen. Item# 12609

The sweet dark figs of Mission are the number one favorite for drying. Mission is one of the most widely grown figs in California producing heavy crops of medium to large dark purplish-black pear-shaped fruit with a rich, sweet strawberry red pulp. The 2-3" wide dark eyed daisies are composed of deep golden yellow rays that surround the dark brown to black cones are produced in late spring to summer (depending on your zone).
