Rhododendron indica 'Amelia Rose'  

Beautiful, rich purplish pink, fully double, rose-like 2" flowers are produced in early to midspring. Amelia Rose Evergreen Azalea is a Dr. Eugene Aromi hybrid with a vigorous upright to rounded habit and a long season of flowering. It will eventually build into a 6' x 6' medium-sized shrub. Azaleas do best in average moist, acidic soils that are rich in organic matter but have good to excellent drainage and should be top dressed with an organic mulch such as pine straw and pine bark. Sweetly fragrant clusters of up to 2" wide, starry, pure white flowers held against a contrasting foil of medium to dark green, glossy foliage are produced nearly continuously throughout the warmer months of the year to potentially year-round under warm tropical conditions. Angel Wing Jasmine, Jasminum laurifolium f. nitidum, is a naturally evergreen, densely branching, scandent or vine-like, sub-tropical shrub growing to 3-5'H x 4-6'W and potentially larger. It can be maintained smaller with pruning. This is likely one of the easiest, most floriferous, and most reliable true Jasmines and can be enjoyed as a container plant where not hardy or in the garden and landscape in mild winter regions. Drooping spike-like clusters composed of numerous, lightly fragrant, small white flowers are produced in spring and are followed by small, 1/4-1/3" diameter red cherries that ripen to black and are consumed by a wide variety of birds and small mammals. The Black Cherry Tree, Prunus serotina, is a moderately fast growing, medium to large, deciduous native tree found throughout much of the eastern, central, and southwestern US as well as into Canada, Mexico, and into Central America. Its medium green serrated foliage is a caterpillar host for the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and Viceroy butterflies as well as a variety of moths. The Black Cherry fairly consistently produces good yellow to red fall color even here in zone 8B in southwestern Louisiana and the white and gray winter bark adds to its interest. The 2-3" wide dark eyed daisies are composed of deep golden yellow rays that surround the dark brown to black cones are produced in late spring to summer (depending on your zone). The flowers attract bees and other small pollinators and the seed heads attract songbirds. The Black-Eyed Susan is an annual - atleast in our area, biennial, to short-lived perennial with dark green hairy foliage that adorns well-branched plants and each plant can produce 20-30 or more flowers. This is a widespread species found along roadsides, meadows and prairies, savannas, and in open Longleaf Pine forests mainly in soils with average or better drainage. Light blue to blue-purple 1/4" wide nectar-rich flowers adorn the tall narrow indeterminate flower spikes from spring to frost to year round under warm tropical conditions. Native to Florida and much of the tropical Americas, Blue Porterweed, Stachytarpheta jamaicensis, has smoother lighter green foliage and generally grows wider than tall whereas the other Blue Porterweed, Stachytarpheta cayennensis or S. urticifolia, has more rugose or quilted deeper green glossier foliage with a typically upright habit. Brown Turkey is the ultimate Southern fig producing large crops of medium to large, brown to maroon, turbinate figs over a long season that begins in June. The flesh is strawberry red and is sweet with good flavor. The Texas Everbearing fig is also known as Brown Turkey fig.  This is probably the most reliable and commonly grown fig in Southern regions but it is the standard bearer for hardiness tolerating the climate of zone 5.
