Tennessee Mountain Fig

The Tennessee Mountain Fig Tree is perhaps the most cold hardy fig ever discovered, the original tree was found growing in 1945 near Nashville Tennessee, where it had survived the bitter cold winters to -10 degrees F. in the snow-covered mountains of the Appalachians. This Tennessee Mountain fig fruiting at a nursery withstood the heavy frost and freeze in Georgia on the morning of November 8, 2007. Variegated Confederate Jasmine, Star Jasmine

Trachelospermum jasminoides 'Variegatum'

Variegated Confederate Jasmine is a show off all year long with its nicely contrasting white to cream and rich green foliage. Late spring and early summer provide a show of sweetly fragrant, star-shaped, white flowers in loose clusters. A very low maintenance vine once well-established with a twining habit, although it is able to climb many of our southern pine species without any assistance. Item# 697.

The large, palmate, tropical-looking, glossy deep green foliage of this Variegated Fatsia is splashed with nicely contrasting bright creamy white making this a standout in shaded gardens. Large loose clusters to 18" or more across are composed of 1" to 1-1/2" diameter, ball-shaped white flowers that are produced in fall to winter attracting an amazing number of mainly smaller pollinators and are followed by 1/4" diameter green berries that ripen to black. Fatsia or Japanese Aralia makes an excellent choice for shaded locations and develops into a medium to large, often multi-stemmed evergreen shrub with an initially slow rate of growth that increase to moderate once plants are well-established. Makes a wonderful specimen, informal hedge, or container plant for indoors or out. Provide Fatsia with an average moist, fertile, acidic soil rich in organic matter with average or better drainage. Item# 9305

The deep bluish-green, sword-shaped foliage is broadly edged in starkly contrasting white and creamy white creating a year round splash of color. The Variegated Yucca is an heirloom selection of the native Yucca filamentosa, or Adam's Needle, and develops into an architecturally pleasing, low rounded mass of evergreen foliage on a deer, heat, and drought resistant plant eventually reaching about 2-3'H x 3'W. It may eventually produce small offsets colonizing the area under good conditions. This tough as nails plant makes a colorful, low-maintenance, reliable, evergreen addition to the garden and landscape and can also be used to good effect as low-maintenance and forgiving container specimens. Adam's Needle is found throughout much of the eastern and central US and as far west as Kansas and is common component in the Longleaf Pine understory. White Chinese Abelia

Abelia chinensis

Large long-lasting clusters of fragrant, trumpet-shaped, nectar rich, white flowers are produced from mid to late spring or early summer until fall attracting a bevy of butterflies, bees, hummingbird moths, and hummingbirds. The White Chinese Abelia, a selection of Abelia chinesis, is a moderately vigorous, upright to rounded, semi-evergreen to deciduous, easy and durable shrub with a fairly dense branching habit growing to about 6-8' high and wide. The plants are cloaked in glossy, deep green, medium textured foliage that acts as a wonderful foil for the bright white flowers. Abelias make tough, reliable, disease and pest resistant, long-lived additions to the garden and landscape that can be allowed to grow in their natural form, and where we find they tend to flower most profusely, as well as a formal hedge. Provide these easy to grow shrubs with a full to mostly sunny site in a well-drained, fertile, average moist soil for optimum vigor and flowering. Item# 9680

A streak of clear bright white adorns the starkly contrasting brilliant true red flowers of this compact China Rose. Chi Long Han Zhu Rose, which roughly translates to White Pearl in Red Dragon's Mouth, is an easy to grow heirloom garden rose and was among the first repeat flowering roses exported out of China. A densely branching shrub rose with red to bronze new growth with good disease resistance and excellent flower power. Chi Long Han Zhu can flower for 10-12 months a year and in the coldest winters it may take a brief respite only to show off again in mild winter weather. Winter Jasmine

Jasminum nudiflorum, J. sieboldianum

The sunny bright yellow, 1" wide flowers are produced in late winter and early spring adorning the bare, arching to trailing, dark green stems. Winter Jasmine, Jasminum nudiflorum var. pulvinatum, is a deciduous, scandent shrub with an arching and trailing habit that can potentially build to 2-3'H x 5-6'W often making a moderately dense groundcover and rooting wherever stems touch the ground. Its arching to trailing habit lend it to use as a trailer spilling over a wall, on slopes or embankments for soil stabilization, it can be trained to a support as a vine or espalier up to 10-12'H, and is even sometimes used as a bonsai specimen. For optimum vigor and flowering provide a full to mostly sunny site with an average moist, fertile soil. Winter Jasmine is considered widely adaptable to soil types and sun exposure, but, flowering may be reduced in heavily shaded sites. Item# 13472

The Yellow Firecracker Fern produces loads of 1" creamy yellow tubular flowers that are born in large loose clusters throughout the warmer months of the year or nearly year round where winters are mild. From spring to fall a near continuous display of the 2-3" wide bright sunny yellow trumpets are held against a foil of deep green glossy foliage. The flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. The Yellow Mandevilla, Pentalinon luteum or Urechites lutea, is a vigorous twining, naturally evergreen, tropical vine native to southern Florida, the Caribbean, and Honduras. It is vigorous enough to cover a small arbor or medium-sized trellis but is mannerly enough to be maintained on a smaller 3-4' high support where it can be enjoyed as container plant for a sunny patio. A rare or uncommon color form of the common Red Shrimp Plant, the Yellow Queen Shrimp Plant produces a continuous display of upright to arching spikes composed of large showy light yellow to chartreuse colored bracts from which the individual white tubular flowers emerge in spring and summer to year round under warm tropical conditions. It displays the same habit and exceptional flower power of its maroon-red bracted cousin making a beautiful display as a container plant specimen and in mixed container gardens as well as in the garden and landscape. The common Shrimp Plant, Justicia brandegeeana, is a heat loving, naturally evergreen, bushy, tropical plant with dark olive green foliage and grows to about 24" high by about 18" wide. It is both full sun and bright shade tolerant but tends to have the densest branching habit where it receives at least 4 hours or more of direct sunlight. Provide an average to well-drained, moderately fertile, average moist soil for optimum vigor and flowering.
