Salt Tolerant Plants

Find plants that are suitable for planting in coastal gardens and landscapes. These are salt resistant plants and some are more tolerant that others to both salt spray as well as soil borne salts.
 

Large pure white mopheads are borne in late spring and summer on this beautiful old favorite. The flowers of Sister Theresa change to green and often to red by fall. This Hydrangea is a good choice for an east or northern exposure, or any mostly shaded position as it does not tolerate full sun well. This has long been a favorite of ours where it's white flowers glow against its own rich dark green foliage and a bed of dark green English Ivy. Item# 10130.

Large clusters of large fragrant soft rosy pink double flowers, often with one or more petals streaked or flecked with white, are born over a long period on this reliable old favorite. Mrs. Isadore Dyer is considered one of the first Oleanders to make its way to Galveston island, the Oleander capital city of the US. According to one of the grandchildren of Mrs. Isadore Dyer, their grandmother smuggled the original plants to Galveston Island from Cuba. This is a large, vigorous, and reliable Oleander. Item# 387.

Sport of Sports Hibiscus, Yellow El Capitolio Hibiscus, Poodle Hibiscus

Hibiscus rosa-sinensis 'Sport of Sports', H. rosa-sinensis 'Yellow El Capitolio'

 The large yellow flowers of this unusual Hibiscus are centered with a deep red star from which emerges a long pistil that ends in a fluff of flower petals like a pom-pom. This is a rare form of the El Capitolio Hibiscus and like its parent it is a vigorous, free flowering plant. The El Capitolio Hibiscus' have the potential to flower throughout the year under good conditions and with enough warmth and sunlight.The large flowers often have a streak of white and may even revert to single Hibiscus flowers during the short days of winter. Their unique form, flower size, vigor, and flower power all make the El Capitolio Hibiscus types some of our favorites for large tropical specimens.
