Orange Flowers or Flower Parts

The large rounded clusters of orange and red tinged gold buds open to deep golden yellow, fragrant flowers that attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds in early spring atop the bare stems. Appalachain Gold Aromi Deciduous Azalea develops into an upright to rounded, medium-sized deciduous shrub well suited to bright woodland settings but will also thrive in full sun under good conditions. The Aromi Deciduous Azaleas were developed by Dr. Eugene Aromi of Mobile, Alabama, and are known for both their amazing spring display of fragrant flowers as well as their ability to withstand the heat and humidity of the Southeastern US. Sometimes still fondly referred to as Wild Honeysuckle Bushes, these nativars will do best in an average moist, well-drained, fertile, acidic soil from partial shade to full sun conditions. Finally a repeat orange flowering Sweet Olive! This rare beauty produces clusters of sweetly fragrant soft orange flowers from fall through winter. Dark burgundy new growth that is reminiscent of Red Tip Photinia adds to the plants interest. Sweets Olives are easy and reliable, long-lived, large evergreen shrubs with few pests or diseases. Clusters of widely flaring soft orange blooms are borne throughout the year and are held above and among the rich deep green glossy foliage on an upright to spreading herbaceous tropical. Crossandras are excellent for mixed containers and in the garden for bright color in shaded areas where they often flower until frost. If kept from freezing temperatures they can easily reach 3-4' high or can easily be pruned to keep them in bounds. Item# 9820

Apricot Sunrise Agastache, considered to be a hybrid of A. coccinea and A. coccinea, is a vigorous, herbaceous perennial growing to about 3' x 3' tois considered hardy to zone 6. Like all Agastache, it will do best in a full to mostly sunny site, in a fertile, average moist to periodically dry soil, with excellent drainage, and good air circulation (i,e don't crowd it). Great Balls of Fire is right! Medium to large clusters of large, fiery orange, fragrant azalea blossoms produce a wonderful effect and whose colors are sure to warm up the spring garden. Maarten van der Giessen says this one is of questionable origins and may not be a true Aromi hybrid but could be a Rhododendron flammeum selection, either way it seems to be a good performer and was selected with the rest of the Aromi hybrids from John Allen Smith's Gardens. Pat Ryan Deciduous Azaleas produce large, full, fragrant soft orange flowers are tinged pink with a with a yellow eye are produced in rounded clusters in early spring perched atop the still bare winter stems. This is the highly sought after and very rare red flowering Sweet Olive. The 6-petaled starry flowers in shades of yellow, orange, and red are heavily speckled and flecked with red and are produced on sturdy stems atop the fans of medium to light green iris-like foliage in summer over a period of several weeks. The flowers of the Blackberry Lily, Belamcanda chinensis or more recently Iris domestica, are followed by seed pods that split open to reveal shiny black round seeds that are sometimes used in dried arrangements for fall. The large, soft pumpkin orange, trumpet shaped, fragrant flowers are highlighted by a contrasting starry, lemony yellow throat and are held in clusters atop thick, sturdy stems well above the bluish green strap-like foliage. Masses of beautiful soft orange, 2" Camellia-like blossoms adorn this Quince in late-winter and early spring. Flowering Quince are easy to grow and long-lived deciduous shrubs with good drought tolerance once established.
