An Almost Eden exclusive introduction for 2026! The unique, 4" wide, deep cranberry colored, single flowers are heavily edged in a contrasting orchid purple at the ends of the petals and are centered by a contrasting cream colored staminal column. The nectar rich flowers are produced from mid to late spring to fall and attract a variety of pollinators including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Aerial Elixirs™ Cranberry Eclipse™ Althea or Rose of Sharon, a selection of Hibiscus syriacus developed by J. Curran, is a large growing, long flowering, deciduous shrub with a moderate to fast rate of growth. This Rose of Sharon tends to have an upright habit when young, rounding out slightly at maturity to about 8-10' high and about 4-6' wide. The large flowers open a deep red-orange, that may fade into a light coral pink due to rain, and are produced on narrow elongating spikes on this full-sized Porterweed from spring to frost attracting a wide array of pollinators especially hummingbirds. Aerial Elixirs™ Rowdy Rufous Porterweed, a selection or hybrid of Stachytarpheta mutabilis first noticed by our Jennifer, is one of our latest introductions and is part of our new line of pollinator plants. If you are not familiar with Porterweeds, members of the genus Stachytarpheta, these are shrubby tropicals with exceptional flower power, excellent nectar production, AND these are the plants that many hummingbirds feed on in their winter resting grounds in Central and South America. Amplissimus Rose of Sharon produces 2-3" wide, double, purplish-red flowers throughout much of summer on this easy to grow vigorous shrub, which is very tolerant of heat and most growing conditions. Althea or Rose of Sharon is a hardy Hibiscus that naturally develops into a multi-stemmed, vase-shaped deciduous shrub that can be trained into a tree form if desired. Medium sized, deep rose red, perfect form flowers are produced over an extended period beginning in midseason and continues well into the late season, February-April. Arctic Rose Camellia develops into a medium to large evergreen shrub with a dense compact habit with a moderate rate of growth. Its slightly smaller mature size makes it a good choice for a low maintenance hedge or container specimen as well as an accent or specimen in the landscape. Large, pure white centers, cupped, Higo-like single flowers are heavily edged in a starkly contrasting broad, deep red to cherry red band that quickly fades to white and are centered by a large boss of yellow stamens and are produced very early in the season in October. One of the earliest Camellias to flower and are sure to attract bees and other pollinators. Autumn Sunrise Sasanqua Camellia, bred by Dr. Clifford Parks, is a vigorous growing, large evergreen shrub with an upright habit and dark green medium textured foliage. Deep orangey-red, up to 2" wide, mimosa-like blossoms are produced nearly every month of the year when grown under frost free conditions. The brilliantly colored flowers of the Baja Fairy Duster are rich with nectar and pollen attracting hummingbirds, bees, and other pollinators. It is reported that fairies like them too! The deep blue-green finely textured, nearly fern-like foliage is touch sensitive like the sensitive briar, if not quite as fast, and this one has no thorns. Considered to be one of the most cold hardy Powderpuffs, the Baja Fairy Duster develops into an informal fountaining shrub once mature that is nearly twice as wide as high. Moderately drought resistant once well established. This dwarf Powderpuff also makes a low maintenance container plant. Item# 838.

Large clusters of deep reddish pink, nectar and pollen laden flowers are produced from summer nearly to frost attracting loads of bees who are constantly working the flowers along with butterflies and hummingbirds. The Baja Red Rose of Montana, the deepest red selection of Antigonon leptopus selected from seed that originated in Baja California, is a vigorous, heat and sunloving, root hardy, tropical vine that can reach heights to 30'H or more if provided with a support. It can easily be enjoyed on arbors, medium and large trellises, along fences, and we have often seen it being allowed to grow up the bare trunks of palms in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. The plants produce potato-like tubers from which they return each spring. A succession of red tubular blooms that end in a purple bat-like 'face' are topped by a pair of glowing red 'ears' creating the interesting 'bat face' look. Batface Cuphea, or Georgia Scarlet Batface Cuphea, is a tough and reliable low mounding perennial which blooms from late spring to frost. Conical spikes of deep red, 3" long tubular flowers are produced nearly continuously throughout the growing season on this vigorous and easy to grow shrub to shrub-like perennial. Bidwill's Coral Tree is a hybrid of our native Mamou Bean, Erythrina herbacea, and the tropical Crybaby Tree, Erythrina crista-galli, combining the best features of both parents. It has the cold hardiness of the Mamou and the continuous flowering of the Crybaby and the hummingbirds flock to the intense red tubular flowers. The deep scarlet red, 1-1/2" long, Turk's turban-like flowers are held upright and are produced in abundance from late spring or early summer until the first hard frost or freeze to potentially year round in mild winter climates. As a die-back perennial, in areas where hard freezes occur, the plants typically reach about 4' high and 5-6' wide by the end of the growing season. Selected at the esteemed Biltmore Estate, Ashville, NC, the summerlong display of 2" wide dangling Chinese lantern-like flowers are a soft yellow-orange heavily overlaid with a strongly contrasting deep red veining. Biltmore Ball Gown Abutilon or Flowering Maple is an exceptionally hardy and reliable upright growing, naturally evergreen shrubby tropical that has proven to be evergreen in mild zone 8 winters but where it is not reliably hardy it makes an easy container plant that can be overwintered indoors near a sunny window. Abutilons are also known as Parlor Maples as this was a reliably flowering indoor plant and a conversation piece. The flowers attract hummingbirds and other garden beneficials. Noted for its dark chocolate to maroon colored foliage, in summer Black Truffle Lobelia produces tall dark spikes of deep true red tubular flowers that are truly a hummingbird's delight.
