Light blue to blue-purple 1/4" wide nectar-rich flowers adorn the tall narrow indeterminate flower spikes from spring to frost to year round under warm tropical conditions. Native to Florida and much of the tropical Americas, Blue Porterweed, Stachytarpheta jamaicensis, has smoother lighter green foliage and generally grows wider than tall whereas the other Blue Porterweed, Stachytarpheta cayennensis or S. urticifolia, has more rugose or quilted deeper green glossier foliage with a typically upright habit. Porterweeds are excellent pollinator plants where they attract a continuous menagerie of aerial acrobats from spring until frost. This a heat and sunloving tropical to tender perennial that can be added to gardens and landscapes or plant them in containers to draw the pollinators in for upclose viewing. The Blue Selection of the Great Blue Lobelia produces loads of short dense spikes of consistently blue flowers all in a compact neat flowering form that is suitable for containers or in the garden and landscape. The summer flowers of the Blue Cardinal Flower are utilized by bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and a variety of other pollinators. It also makes an easy addition to cut flower arrangements. Blue Witches Hat, Hedgehog Sage

Pycnostachys urticifolia

Dense broadly conical 3-4" high spikes of intense sapphire blue tubular flowers open from the bottom upwards with the first flowers to open creating the broad brim of the witches hat. Blue Witches Hat, or Hedgehog Sage, begins flowering in autumn and in areas where it is protected from frosts it can flower throughout winter and into spring. It is a medium to short day flowering plant. This tropical South African member of the mint family can develop into a shrub where winters are freeze and frost free reaching up to 8' high, 3-4' high in a container is more typical. Item# 11750

Deep sapphire blue tubular flowers emerge from solid black calyxes on black stems atop the rich green anise scented foliage. Bodacious® Rhythm and Blues Salvia or Anise Sage is a hybrid that was selected and introduced by Salvia guru Kermit Carter and boasts larger more intensely blue flowers atop vigorous full plants with deep green foliage. Callistemon viminalis 'Boyette'

Large dense clusters of deep red bottle-brush shaped flowers are produced throughout the growing season suspended at the ends of the ropelike weeping limbs adorned with deep green glossy narrow foliage. Boyette Weeping Bottlebrush was selected for its continuous display of showy red flowers, where most Weeping Bottlebrush cultivars are spring and fall flowering, and an extreme weeping habit. The nectar and pollen laden flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Moderately drought resistant once well-established. Boyette Weeping Bottlebrush develops into a small evergreen tree whose unusual form lends it to use as a specimen tree in a sunny site with a well-drained soil. The Brazilian Firecracker Vine produces a profusion of red-orange, yellow-tipped tubular flowers throughout the year on this dainty tropical twining vine. This is an easy to grow vine that is small enough for hanging baskets, small trellises or fences. Bridge's Penstemon, Beardtongue

Penstemon rostriflorus

Atop and along the 2-3' high wispy spikes hang nodding intense red tubular flowers with a show that begins in mid summer and may last well into October and can attract hummingbirds from far and wide. Bridge's Penstemon is a clump forming long-lived native shrublet (it develops a woody base over time) with an open wispy habit growing about as wide as tall at maturity and is considered to be one of the longest flowering red Penstemon species. This species is from the dry desert southwest region of the US and so will need good to excellent drainage although it is reported to withstand average moisture conditions. Provide a full to mostly sunny site for optimum vigor and flowering. Bridges Penstemon may also make an easy and forgiving long flowering perennial for unglazed terra cotta container gardens. Item# 11930

Chiapas Sage, Meadow Sage

Salvia chiapensis

Graceful foot-long spikes of fuzzy bright fuchsia tubular flowers are produced from summer through fall and throughout winter under frost free conditions on a mannerly shade tolerant plant with deep green textured foliage. Chiapas Sage develops into a 3' high and wide plant and hails from the Cloud Forests of San Cristobal, Chiapas, Mexico and should do wonderfully in the humid central and eastern US. It is frost tender but is reported to withstand zone 7 winters if given a breathable protective winter mulch in a well-drained soil. In hot summer climates plan to give Chiapas Sage midday and afternoon shade and it can tolerate light shade and will be sure to brighten up these areas. The nectar rich flowers are a treat for hummingbirds, butterflies, and other pollinators. Claire Grace Beebalm was selected not only for its long-lasting masses of darker purple flowers but also for its glossy green healthy foliage with good resistance to powdery mildew. This was one of the top 3 performing Monardas in trials that included over 40 cultivars at Mt. Cuba Center near Wilmington Delaware. Discovered in Mississippi by Barb and Michael Bridges of the now defunct Southern Perennials and Herbs and named for their daughter. Correll's False Dragonhead is a rare but wonderful, seemingly more refined garden species that is as vigorous as it is beautiful. The dense spikes of purplish-pink, tubular, often speckled, flowers are held atop sturdy, 3' high stems in summer. Like most other Physostegias, Correll's False Dragonhead does spread by large rhizomes even in average soils. The leaves of this species are toothed, widest in the middle, sessile, and are almost always a rich dark green. Item# 10236.
