Forest Red Gomphrena or Globe Amaranth is an excellent nectar plant that attracts a seemingly continuous parade of pollinators and garden beneficials as well as providing summer long color. Clusters of fragrant, starry white flowers that open from the end of long tubes are produced from spring through summer on this large fountaining tropical shrub. Clerodendrum minahassae, a.k.a. Fountain Clerodendrum or Tube Flower, naturally develops into a 10' x 10' arching shrub with a vase shaped habit but can be kept smaller with pruning. The flowers of this rare tropical attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and most likely hummingbird moths. Pollinated flowers produce bright red calyces that subtend the blue-black berries and creating a nice contrast with the white flowers. Begins flowering even as a small plant. The showy and long-lasting deep red pine-cone like flower heads are produced throughout the growing season and may be produced throughout the year under warm tropical conditions. French Kiss is a selection of the Red Buttons Ginger with a free flowering habit that lends it to use en mass in a partly shaded garden or landscape or as a low maintenance specimen plant for containers. Orange and yellow individual flowers emerge singly or a few at the time from between the showy red bracts that make up the flower heads. Medium green rounded foliage. The flowers of this compact ginger attract hummingbirds and make an easy long-lasting cut flower. Gaping Dutchman's Pipevine

Aristolochia ringens

Large, 8-9" long elongated flowers are very reminiscent of a Dutchman's pipe with maroon markings nearly covering the creamy yellow under coat with the same creamy yellow in the throat of the flowers. An upper 'petal' appears to set off to one side of the flower. The Gaping Pipevine begins flowering in the spring and may continue through fall under good conditions. In all other regards it closely resembles the Giant and Calico Pipevines with medium green heart-shaped foliage. This is a twining tropical Dutchman's Pipevine that is easily grown as a container plant where not hardy. Item# 11399

General Pershing's Double Red Oleander

Nerium oleander 'General Pershing'

General Pershing Double Red Oleander boasts big beautiful double red blossoms in large bouquets at the end of weeping stems. One petal of each flower is often streaked with a bright contrasting white. This beautiful double red oleander is considered fairly cold hardy and while the stems of ours, here in Louisiana, froze to ground level during the winters of 2009-10 and 2010-11, they did return from the roots. Many others have mentioned that General Pershing is probably best left to large containers in areas north of zone 9,10, and 11 where it can grow to become a fairly large evergreen shrub or small weeping tree standard.
