Popcorn Spirea, Bridal Wreath Spirea

Spiraea prunifolia 'Plena' (sometimes 'Floreplena')

In late winter and early spring very double dainty white flowers often with a greenish eye are produced in profusion along the bare arching stems of this heirloom favorite. Bridal Wreath Spirea, or as we learned it Popcorn Spirea, develops into a medium to large deciduous shrub with a naturally arching and fountaining habit often accentuated by the weight of the numerous flowers. The somewhat fine-textured simple foliage is glossy and appears smooth edged at a glance although it is very finely toothed, unlike the bluish-green, matte finished, rhomboid shaped dentate foliage of the more commonly grown Reeve's Spirea (which is also commonly and confusingly called Bridal Wreath or Bridal Wreath Spirea) and develops good fall color in shades of red, orange, and into purple tones. Tops in Mt. Cuba Center's first Echinacea trials in 2009 and was still one of the top ten in the 2020 trials! It also garnered the most pollinator visits in their 2018-19 trial years likely due to its strongly fragrant flowers. Pure white rays surround the dark orange tipped rounded cones of disk flowers on the 3-5" wide flowers atop sturdy 24-30" high stems beginning in late spring and continuing into early fall. PRAIRIE PILLARS™ Fragrant Angel Coneflower is a hybrid Coneflower selected for its exceptionally long flowering season that lasts from late spring or early summer often into fall, briliant color, extra large flowers, and improved branching habit over the original Mac-N-Cheese as well as its perennial reliability as a garden plant. Rosa's Blush Darrow's Dwarf Blueberry

Vaccinium darrowii 'Rosa's Blush'

Yes it fruits but it's fine textured evergreen foliage is fantastic! Clusters of 3/8" edible blue fruit that ripen in May-June, follow the light pink bell-shaped flowers of early spring. Rosa's Blush is grown mainly for its compact habit and beautifully colored, fine textured, ever-changing foliage as the berries ripen a few at the time over a long period. Smallhead Doll's Daisy

Boltonia diffusa var. diffusa

Beginning in summer and continuing until the first frost, white upward facing, small, 1/2-3/4" wide, white daisies with a prominent yellow eye are borne singly and small clusters over a long period attracting a variety of bees, smaller butterflies, and other beneficial insects. Smallhead Doll's Daisy, Boltonia diffusa var. diffusa, is a medium to tall, stoloniferous, herbaceous perennial with blueish green narrow foliage. A native of the Southeastern US, it is normally seen in or near consistently moist areas and so it will likely prefer a moist to average moist soil and can tolerate both periodic drought and flooding once fully established. It will likely grow and flower best in a moist, average to well-drained soil in a full to mostly sunny location. Plants in too much shade or in overly fertile soils may flop and a late spring to early summer pruning can help to promote bushier sturdier plants if this is an issue. Smallhead Doll's Daisy may be best suited to naturalistic settings or near the back of the border. Item# 13338
