Eskimo Dawn Sasanqua Camellia

Pure white, formal double, a.k.a. rose or perfect form, flowers are produced in fall and standout like spotlights against the foil of deep dark green, glossy, medium-textured foliage. Eskimo Dawn Sasanqua Camellia, potentially a selection or hybrid of C. oleifera, is an exceptionally cold hardy, small to medium-sized evergreen shrub with a slow growth rate making it a good choice for container culture as well as for a low maintenance small hedge, accent, or specimen in the garden and landscape. A more consistently evergreen selection of this easy medium sized shrub. The dense neat mound of deep green glossy foliage and red tinged stems is topped by clusters of white flowers in spring which make way to red berries ripening through purple and finally black. The flowers attract a variety of pollinators and the fruit attract songbirds and smaller fructivores. Everleaf Walter's Viburnum is a selection of the southeastern native Viburnum obovatum and its dense mounding habit lends it to use anywhere a medium-sized shrub is desired in the landscape. It is generally evergreen into zone 8A and tends to be deciduous to semi-evergreen in zones 6 and 7. The rounded mass of steel blue narrow sword like foliage is topped by tall spikes of dangling creamy white bell-shaped flowers are produced in spring on mature plants. Excalibur Yucca, a selection of our native Yucca filamentosa, is grown mainly for its steely blue to gray-green foliage that provides a nice contrast to nearby plants. This is a tough as nails, clump-forming, evergreen, small  native shrub that has a naturally rounded habit and even though it is fairly drought resistant it happily thrives in most well-drained soils in a full sun to partly shaded site. Adam's Needle is found throughout much of the eastern and central US and as far west as Kansas and is common component in the Longleaf Pine understory. Five-Veined Dogwood, Xiao Lai Mu

Clusters of white to yellowish white flowers seemingly cover up the plant in spring and are held against a foil of deep green foliage. Flowers are followed by clusters of black fruit. The Five-Veined Dogwood, Cornus quinquinervis, is an evergreen medium-sized shrub with a spreading upright habit growing about as wide as tall at maturity. This plant is rare in the US at present but is being trialed at SFA Gardens and as JC Ralston Arboretum at present and has shown to be a promising ornamental Dogwood with excellent disease resistance to Dogwood anthracnose. Provide the Five-Veined Dogwood with an average moist soil and full sun to partly shaded site. It is reported to be tolerant of clay and mildly alkaline soils.
