White Flowers or Flower Parts

The large creamy white flowers emerge from loose purple-black tinged spikes and calyxes from spring to fall attracting hummingbirds and other garden beneficials. Cool Cream Salvia, a selection or hybrid of the Little Leaf or Mountain Sage, Salvia microphylla, boasts excellent vigor and flower power with flowering beginning early and continuing reliably through summer and into fall. In areas where hard freezes do not occur, The Mountain Sages may develop a shrubby semi-woody base, while in zone 8 and colder, established plants act more like herbaceous perennials dying back to near ground level and returning in early spring. Enjoy these colorful pollinator attractors in the garden and landscape or as rewarding and forgiving container specimens. Vibrant red, single Hibiscus blooms bring elegance and poise to the chaos of color brought on by the brilliantly variegated foliage which is randomly splashed in shades of burgundy, red, pink, white, and green. A vigorous growing Tropical Hibiscus. Makes a wonderful full bushy Hibiscus or small tree standard where it provides a loud summer long splash of tropical foliage color. For the best foliage colors grow Cooper's Variegated Hibiscus in full sunlight and where it gets plenty of warmth. Item # 806.

The true demand  is for the VIGNA  Caracalla, a favorite of Thomas Jefferson's, the Corskscrew Vine, Snail Vine, or Caracalla Bean produces large clusters of fragrant white and lavender coiling buds and flowers that fade to a creamy yellow just before dropping. The Corkscrew Vine is a vigorous climber that grows from a tuberous, somewhat potato-like, root that it can return from in mild winter climates. The intricate late summer and fall blooming flowers attract a variety of pollinators, particularly larger bees. Item# 373.

There exists a "Corkscrew vine, a.k.a. Snail vine" that looks very similar to the V. caracallas vine, but has no fragrance, and can become a pest.  It is more hardy  of the two.   We do not grow it.  

This native perennial Hibiscus boasts large 6-8" wide typically white but occassionally pink flowers with a dark burgundy eye. The Crimson-Eyed Rosemallow, Hibiscus moscheutos, is common in moist and wet areas as the name implies but is tolerant of average moist garden soils but may require extra moisture during dry spells. This is a vigorous and hardy native perennial that can reach 5-7' high but is more commonly found at 4'. The foliage may be used as a butterfly caterpillar host by Hairstreaks, Blues, Coppers, and others. Hibiscus moscheutos is one of the main species used in breeding of the large dinner plate-sized Hardy or Perennial Hibiscus cultivars. Item# 9399

The large 8" long, white to greenish white, dangling angel's trumpet-like, night fragrant flowers are produced over an extended period a few times a year and the plants begin flowering at a very young age. Cubanola or Campanita, Portlandia domingensis, is a naturally evergreen small tree-like tropical shrub with glossy rich green foliage growing to about 5-8' high. It is shade tolerant but is reported to flower the most profusely where it gets more sun. The night fragrant flowers attract a variety of pollinating moths and makes a neat addition to a moon moth garden either as a container plant or in the ground where reliably hardy. Provide an average moist well-drained soil for optimum growth and flowering. Item# 12229

A rare Angel's Trumpet that produces split petalled hanging white trumpets that are held among the very narrow, dark green, velvety foliage. The 6-8'', fragrant, pure white blooms are formed of loose petals that twist and flare out at the bottom like a petticoat. Culebra Angel's Trumpet is not as large growing as many of its cousins and so is easily maintained as a container plant. Item# 9351.

One of the most prolific flowering Angel's Trumpets producing masses of white, fragrant trumpets that are borne in profusion on this free flowering tropical. Begins blooming at a very young age making it an excellent choice for containers. Angel's Trumpets are fast growing tropical shrubs that act-like dieback perennials in the northern parts of their range but readily return from the roots in spring. Elegant, pure white, 3" wide hibiscus flowers seemingly glow against the foil of exceptionally dark green tropical foliage. Dainty White Hibiscus is a non-stop bloomer that puts on a show practically throughout the year and barely even slows down only for the shortest and coolest days of winter. Large, rounded clusters composed of nearly 1" wide, fragrant, pure white flowers sit atop sturdy stems in summer and are sure to attract butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators. The white petals of these medium to large loosely double white flowers exhibit rich pink hearts. This double flowered Hibiscus is a free flowering shrub with a good branching habit. A Tropical or Chinese Hibiscus, it is well suited to container culture or it may be used in gardens and landscapes as a specimen or hedge where hardy. 8-10" long double or triple purple and white trumpets are borne in throughout the warmest months. The uniquely colored cornucopia-like blooms and nearly black foliage create a striking contrast. Item # 1223.

2-3" wide clusters of up to 1/2" diameter, bright white, fully double flowers are produced in early spring all along the softly arching branches just before and during the emergence of the bluish-green, soft-textured new foliage. Double Reeve's Spiraea, Spiraea cantoniensis 'Lanceata', is an heirloom shrub that has long been intermingled with the large type Indica Azaleas for a wonderful spring show. This is a medium sized, 6'x6' shrub with arching branches that when left unpruned looks like a cascading waterfall of flowers.
