I had this plant for several years having overwintered it in my breezeway. I could NOT get it to bloom. I live near St Louis where we have the hot humid summers that ruellia enjoy.

Ruellias need at least some direct sunlight to flower best, they will tolerate shade but generally don't flower as well. Also, flowering often occurs in the morning and then the flowers can fade by as early as midday depending on moisture and sunlight. (We demoted this rating to 1 star, as that would seem more appropriate in your experience with the plant.)
