Torpedo is a slightly larger flowering form of Batface Cuphea which produces 1-1/2" long red tubular blooms that end with a purple bat-like face that is accented by the bright red 'ears' on a naturally mounding plant. Flowers from late spring to frost and is adored by hummingbirds. Use Torpedo Batface Cuphea in mixed containers as a spiller or filler, as specimen containers, hanging baskets, or in mass in the garden and landscape to create a bold effect. The fuzzy dangling crimson flowers of this tough little trailing perennial are born throughout the warmer months of the year or all year long when grown indoors. Generally considered an annual, the Trailing Chenille Plant is actually a cold hardy and durable perennial suitable for full sun or light shade. It makes the perfect hanging basket plant or spiller for container gardens or trailing over walls where its fiery red catkins provide a continuous display of color. Item# 680.

Produces brightly contrasting white and purple typical violet-shaped flowers from spring to fall to nearly year-round under warm tropical winter conditions. Clusters of 3" long yellow, orange, orange-red, or red trumpets adorn this vigorous native vine throughout summer. An excellent choice for hummingbirds. Trumpet Creeper's vigor, tolerance of poor soils, and durability lend it to use in difficult sites. Use as an espalier, allow it to climb a sturdy fence, or cover an arbor. An easy groundcovering perennial, Under the Sea Selfheal produces fat spikes of dark bracts from which tubular purplish pink flowers emerge over an extended period from late spring and through early summer providing nectar to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. This member of the mint family is easy to establish and requires little care once established in the garden as a groundcover beneath larger perennials or as a component of the meadow or prairie. Large intense deep blue flowers emerge from tall spikes beginning in spring and continuing throughout the growing season and into fall. Van Remsen Salvia, an Anise Sage or chance hybrid, is an excellent nectar plant for hummingbirds and may also be visited by larger butterflies. Unlike many of the Salvia guaranitica selections available Van Remsen is a clump forming vigorous growing perennial that can hit 7' high bringing the flowers closer to the hummingbirds and towering over most other garden perennials. This cultivar was discovered in the garden of James Van Remsen of Louisiana and was named and introduced by Salvia guru Richard Dufresne of North Carolina. The spikes of 1" long, creamy white,, two-lipped tubular flowers that emerge from pale yellow buds are produced throughout the growing season attracting hummingbirds, bees, and the occasional butterfly. Vanilla Cream Salvia or Jame Sage, a hybrid selection grouped with Salvia x jamensis, is a compact perennial Salvia growing to about 18-24" high and 12-18" wide that is small enough to enjoy as a low maintenance container plant as well as in a sunny garden or landscape. The glossy, deep green, fragrant foliage acts as the perfect foil for the light colored flowers. Plants may remain evergreen in mild winter climates and are reported to be hardy into zone 7. Provide this tough perennial Salvia with a well-drained, fertile soil with average moisture, although, fully established plants are somewhat drought resistant the plants will flower best where they have at least some moisture available during the growing season. Glowing red flowers emerge from large clusters of nearly pure white calyces and create a brilliant contrast to the yellow, chartreuse, cream and green variegated new growth that typically matures to creamy white and dark green. A rare find and a beautiful and easy tropical vine. The Variegated Bleeding Heart Vine makes an excellent choice for a well-lit patio or porch with a northern or eastern exposure or anywhere it is shaded throughout the hottest portion of the day. Large creamy yellow, white, and green foliage acts as the backdrop for large hanging clusters of 3" wide, sky blue trumpet shaped flowers that are produced on new growth throughout the summer and into fall. The Variegated Blue Sky Vine is a vigorous twining tropical vine that revels in the warmth of summer and this form appears to be just as vigorous and sun loving as the solid green form. Evergreen in frost free locations, establish in spring once the danger of frost has past as a die-back perennial vine in zones 8-9, or it can easily be maintained as a container plant where not hardy. A rarely offered but beautiful cultivar of Giant Liriope, with the long wide arching strap-like foliage that is heavily marked in cream and green. Use this semi slow growing, clump forming perennial as an accent or in mass to brighten shaded areas of the garden or in containers as a specimen or in mixed plantings where the foliage color and texture will contrast nicely. The large, palmate, tropical-looking, glossy deep green foliage of this Variegated Fatsia is splashed with nicely contrasting bright creamy white making this a standout in shaded gardens. Large loose clusters to 18" or more across are composed of 1" to 1-1/2" diameter, ball-shaped white flowers that are produced in fall to winter attracting an amazing number of mainly smaller pollinators and are followed by 1/4" diameter green berries that ripen to black. Fatsia or Japanese Aralia makes an excellent choice for shaded locations and develops into a medium to large, often multi-stemmed evergreen shrub with an initially slow rate of growth that increase to moderate once plants are well-established. Makes a wonderful specimen, informal hedge, or container plant for indoors or out. Large deep green heart shaped foliage is veined with silver and randomly splotched with maroon and black. The Variegated Monkey Ball Vine is a vigorous but manageable and unusual perennial twining tropical vine that will grow to the height of its support whether 6' or 30' high. Most resources suggest that it is only hardy to zone 10 but we have it in the ground here in zone 8B and it comes back reliably if well-established before cool fall and winter weather sets in. Also known as Ornamental Yam, Dioscorea dodecaneura, it is late to emerge from natural winter dormancy in spring but grows vigorously once it takes off. It can be easily overwintered indoors as a container plant where not hardy. Item# 3128

2" wide, sweetly fragrant, double white flowers are produced mainly in spring with occasional repeat and are held against a foil of deep green foliage edged in creamy yellow to creamy white. The Variegated Radicans Dwarf Gardenia is a low, mound forming, evergreen shrub slowly building to 1-2' high and about 2' wide making it an easy and low maintenance addition to the garden or landscape. *The plants can tolerate full sun but typically have the deepest green foliage where it receives some shade during the hottest portion of the day particularly in hot summer climates. Provide an acid, fertile, average moist soil with good drainage for optimum vigor and flowering. Rarely available in the nursery trade. The fragrant flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other smaller pollinators as well as the pollinating, hummingbird-like Sphinx moths making it a good choice for Moon Moth gardens. Item# 4072

Clusters of 3-4" long, tubular, waxy buds open to display the long-lasting starry white wonderfully fragrant flowers that are held against equally beautiful ovate foliage that is edged and randomly splashed in creamy yellow that matures to white and silver as well as often having a silvery overlay. Flowers on and off throughout the warmer months of the year to year-round in warm tropical conditions. Variagated Stephanotis or Madagascar Jasmine, a selection of Stephanotis floribunda, is an evergreen tropical twining vine that makes an easy container plant and is readily trained to small to medium sized trellises although it can climb to 12-15' high where it has a support. This is an old favorite and as Liberty Hyde Bailey states in the Standard Cyclopedia of Horticulture "is one of the best greenhouse climbers" and "There are few plants that have all the good qualities of S. floribunda. It is a splendid grower, has good foliage, is very free flowering, and the flowers last well on the plant or when cut for decorative work." The 18" arching stems are adorned with deep green foliage edged in chartreuse and yellow and by late summer and fall when terminal clusters of orchid-like light purple to white flowers with darker speckling are produced. This Variegated Toadlily makes a beautiful addition to the shade garden where it is sure to shine. Toadlilies or Tricyrtis are slowly spreading rhizomatous winter deciduous perennials that are well suited to partially shaded sites with average moist soils. A few hours of cool sunlight like early morning, very late evening, or filtered shade help to ensure good vigor and flowering. They are generally considered hardy perennials well into zone 5.
